There is a lot of information on the mysterious Daniel Badger-Hannah Mallott line available on line. Family accounts indicate that Daniel was born in 1778 and that one of his sons was named Reason. War of 1812 records indicate that he served in Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan, and land records indicate that he settled in Grant County, Indiana. Family accounts indicate that he married Hannah Mallott in Hamilton County, Ohio, in 1798, and died in Grant County, Indiana, in 1843. He appears on the 1830 and 1840 U.S. Census returns there. Reason appears on the 1880 U.S. Census in Wabash, Indiana, and states that he was born in Ohio, his father in Vermont, and his mother in Maryland, consistent with family accounts. Daniel might well have been the son of Gideon Badger, born in 1723, the son of Captain Daniel Badger of Union, Connecticut, and his first wife, Sarah Roath (or Worth). In 1769, when Daniel died, Gideon filed in Connecticut Probate Court a quitclaim in favor of his stepmother and stated that he was of "Cumberland County." Vermont records indicated that he was a soldier of the Revolution in Westminster ("Cumberland County" New York), a husbandman in Putney, and a landowner enumerated in 1791 in Brattleboro. Male descendants of Daniel, b. 1778, might want to participate in a Badger DNA survey to confirm their descent from Giles Badger of Newbury.
