I am looking for information regarding Civil War soldiers that came out of Watauga County. I am working on a couple of projects: 1) a book on the 37th North Carolina Troops, 2) a Biographical record of Watauga County Civil War Soldiers, 3) a history of Watauga County from 1849 - 1870. Any information is welcomed.
Also, I am currently compiling a list of Watauga County Civil War soldiers. I have uncovered over 840 that came from Watauga County (91% Confederate). This information contains names, dates, service records, parents, wives. children, birth date and place, date of death and place, etc. While there are some soldiers I do not have a lot of info on, I do have something on every one of them. I am willing to share any information with interested parties. Please contact me.

Correction to my last posting (I should have checked my charts before posting the last one): Noah and Hugh Isaacs were cousins, Noah being the Son of Richard Isaacs II and Hugh the son of Richard's brother, Soloman Isaacs. Both were born in the same general time frame (Noah in 1838 and Hugh in 1839).

Michael,

In researching my Isaacs ancestry, I came accross the following list of Watauga County Civil War Veterans in WATAUGA ANCESTRY VOL. III no4, 63-Union and Confederate Civil War Veterans-extracted from the 1910 Watauga Co. Census of Population, Cove Creek:

Thomas B. Fletcher, age 67, Conf. Army. Farmer
Enoch Fletcher, age 65, Union Army. Farmer
Noah Isaacs, age 73, Union Army. Farmer
Hugh M. Isaacs, age 70, Conf. Army. Farmer
Riley Eggers, age 73, Conf. Army. Farmer
Landrine Eggers, age 79, Conf. Army. Farmer

Noah Isaacs was my gg-grandfather and Hugh was likely his brother, both being sons of Richard Isaacs, II and his wife Lilliana Swift Isaacs. Thomas and Enoch Fletcher may very well have been the brothers-in-law of Noah, who was married to Jane Fletcher Isaacs (But this is pure speculation on my part). Should you desire it, I can e-mail you a photo of Noah (Not in uniform, but taken much later in his life).

Keep me posted on how your project is running, I'm very interested in anything you may unearth with regard to what it was like for the families dealing with soldiers in the armies of both sides.
