Tammy,

My great-great grandfather, Henry Adam Esch, came from Germany to the US when he was 23. I have been told that two of his brothers came with him and settled in different parts of the mid-west. Henry settled in Vincennes, Indiana. One of his descendents subsequently became a US Senator (see the Esch Transportation Bill, circa 1940's or 1950's). Anyway, Sen. Esch commissioned a genealogy search that traces the Esch family tree back to 1076 AD. I'm trying to run down a copy of those records. You may well be a decendent of one of Henry's brothers.

What part of the country are your Esch relatives from?

Let's keep in touch. I'm close to getting my hands on those Esch records, and I may have some information for you in the next few months.

I am trying to confirm family information given me that my Great Great grandfather was Herman Eugene Esch a cabinet maker born in Germany and married to a woman from Alsace Lorraine. He had a son in Vincennce Indiana, also Hermon Eugene Esch who married an Evelyn Hitchcock and ended up in Kansas (Parsons, Cherryvale). I have some old photos that may be some of the Esch relatives. I am having trouble finding anything to validate the information I have. Please contact me at mkmetts@yahoo.com if you want to compare information.

Melinda,
I am not sure if this is going to help or hinder you, but my Hinternesch in America came from the line of Hinter dem Esch(e) in Prussia. I am working on research now taking me back to the late 1600s. When you do your research in Germany(Prussia), you may run into this or use this information to further your research if you run into a dead end. My Hinter dem Esche comes from Reiste, (near Bramsche and not far from Bremen) in present day Niedersachen.

Pam,

These are common names from Luxembourg, but I'm excited about the possibility of matching your my Hubert and Theodore Esch with a missing brother Henrich to your two missing brothers and gg grandfather Henry.

As you'll see from the information below - I have a little more information about the parents - John and Elizabeth Esch. I also have traced over 500 descendants of Hubert and Margaretha Esch. They are my gg grandparents.

Esch Family Connections

Laurie,

I recently found my direct line connections in the "Deutches geschlecterbuch" at the Dallas Public Library. It's written in old German script, and I have a friend locally who can help me read the script. I have five years of German, but the script is triping me up. Most of my direct line came from other than Luxemborg, but we are still probably distantly related. Seems the Esch family is HUGE. My gr-gr-grandfather Henry Adam Meinhardt Esch came over from Florin, somewhere in the Alsace Lorraine area, when he was 23. The entries in the "Deutches geshlecterbuch (German relationships) includes my grandfather, Charles William Esch, who was born in Indianna in 1901.

Henry Adam Meinhardt Esch had a brother who came to America with him. The brother settled in Wisconsin.

There are also Esch's in Pennsylvannia, whom I believe were part of my grandfather's line, but removed from his direct line - probably a cousin of his gr-grandfather, who came here a few years earlier. Maybe even a cousin or brother of his gr-gr-grandfather. I haven't established the connection.

If you search on "Esch" on the LDS site www.familysearch.org, you will find Esch's all over Europe, including Russia, Prussia, the Netherlands, etc. I don't recall seeing Luxemborg.

My email is: pltaylor@mindspring.com. Please email me directly, and let's investigate this further. You may be interested in knowing the Esch family genealogy has been researched back to 1067 AD (the Crusades). There was royalty in the family, so the records were maintained. I'll be happy to share what I know.

I've already found two distant cousins from this posting. I'm anxious to find more. I'll look forward to your email!!

My grandfather is John Esche born Oct. 28-1904 passed in Mar.1983. He married Marion Daly and had seven children. I was told by my uncle that their name was originally spelt Esch, but when they came to the states it was changed to Esche so it would be easier to pronounce. Are we related?!

It could be possible that part of the last name was dropped when your folks entered this country. My family has a variety of combinations dating back to 1700 with Hinter Dem Esche and then later Hinternesch. My gg grandfather appeared in the 1850 census Nesch, Christian R. Hinter. So I think you have to find some roots in early Germany
