I have a facsimile of a portrait of Roland Gaches painted in 1666.The original hangs in the French Hospital in London.I will try to get it scanned and make it accessible on the net.
I also have a potted history of him from birth in Alby in France to his arrival in England. My late father Gordon Daniel Gaches left me a copy of a book by Louis Bingham Gaches titled "The History of the Liberty of Peterborough" does anyone know of another copy?

Hello, I don't know anything about the book but I was wondering if there was a connection with the last names. There are several variations of the spelling which include geatches, gatches, gaches, gatsius, getsius, getches & gatzias that I have seen. My ancestors so far that I have found came from England. Devon England is one of the locations... Does this sound fimiliar in your line?

Hi Philip
My name is Kenneth Alan Gaches and I am related to the Gaches of Peterborough. Most of my knowledge abvout the family comes from my grandmother who is 93 and was married to Raymond Pierre Gaches grandson of Louis Bingham Gaches. With reference to your message about the portrait. I have a copy of the portrait but it is of Raymond Gaches who was a protestant minister. According to paperwork i have the original hangs in the French Hospital "La Providence" in Rochester, Kent. The portrait was presented to the hospital by Louis Bingham Gaches in September 1886. The photo-copy of the painting was done by John Victor Gaches grandson of Louis Bingham Gaches and eldest son of Clive Gaches Hope thisis of interest to you
Regards
Ken

Hi

I have a friend Vincent Paul Gaches and we have been preparing a family tree for his daughter Holly Elise Gaches. Vincent is the great great great grandson of Louis Bingham Gaches and now lives in London.

We would very much like it if you could e-mail a copy of the portrait of Raymond. We know he was a priest and the grandson of Guillaume Gaches who was born in about 1550 in Castres Languedoc France. However we believe that he was the first Gaches to have fled to England after religious persecution of protestants, his son John James Gaches was born in England. John's mother gloried in the name Isebeau De Vignaux.

We also believe that part of Louis's family was friendly with the exiled Napoleon III of France as they lived in Chislehurst which was where Napoleon lived. There is a female faimily member and five offspring buried in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chislehurst.

Do you have any pictures of Louis or his descendants Holly could add to the family tree. I am her godfather in case you wondered about the link.

We can give you the tree right back to Guillaume in 1550, and Holly's mother's side to 1814, if you want to fill in the gaps.

Regards

John.

I am not a Gaches but I am interested in Louis Gaches. I have just obtained a book by him entitles 'A guide to the law relating to highways, bridges and footpaths; waterways and rivers.' It describes him as a barrister and counsel to the District Councils Association. There is no publication date on the book, and I am interested to know more about the author. I see various references to Louis Bingham Gaches on the message board, and wondered if it is the same man. Can anybody help me please?

I was trying t o do some research into Daniel Gaches when I came across your request (now old) for a copy of the portrait of Raymond Gaches. We have a small copy of it. My husband is a descendant - his grandmother was Mary Cecil Gaches, daughter of Henry Cecil Gaches, son of Daniel Gaches. I think Louis Bingham Gaches was a cousin of one of the above.
The Daniel Gaches I am trying to find out about is earlier than this man. All I know is that he was Vicar of St. Peter's Church, Wootten Wawen and died in about 1803. Any info linking him gratefully received!

I came across your request for info about Louis Bingham Gaches. Do you still want it? My husband is a Gaches descendant and Louis Bingham Gaches is a relative.
