How coincidental that your father is from the greater St.Louis area,I am also. However, the Gluecks came from Hungary (as Glucks)in the late 1800's to the greater NY area. As far as I know the Gluecks in the STL area are not Jewish and I've no reason to have any link between them and my husband's family. I guess you know there are Gluecks in Belleville. I go to the Belleville library when I'm back there. If you need more info e-mail me at

My Glueck family comes from Almersbach, Wuerttemberg, Germany. Some, from what I understand, settled in PA.

I am trying to find the descendants of a Monte Glueck who died in LA in 1954. Monte married a woman named Clara; they had a son named Joseph.

Monte was the son of Adolph Glueck, former mayor of Dodge City, KS. Adolph came from Hungary; he married Sophia Loebner in St. Louis in 1865. When he died in KS, they brought his body back to St. Louis for burial. Adolph and Sophia were Jewish.

Monte had a brother named Leo and a sister named May.

Andy, Are you sure Monte died in LA? I was just looking for some of my Gluecks on the CA death index and didn't see a Monte in 1954. I know there are Gluecks in the STL area because I research my parents families there. As far as I know, these Gluecks were not Jewish and I think they were from Germany. Regarding your Adolph - do you know where in Hungary he came from. Was he originally a Gluck? My Gluecks (Gluck) were Jewsish, from Eastern Hungary.

Monte's father was Adolph. Originally, Adolph's surname was "Glück" (with the umlaut) and later Glueck. I guess, along the way, somehow Monte became Gluck. Look up Monte Gluck in the CA death index; they show him as having died in LA on 08 Jan 1954.

I don't know where Adolph came from in Hungary, but they were definitely Jewish.

Monte married a woman named Clara; I found 3 Clara Gluck's who died in LA, but I have nothing concrete to go on. The most likely would be Clara Landauer Gluck, born in IL on 16 Jun 1884 and died 02 Jun 1983. But this is a guess.

Andy, I don't see any connection between our Glucks as mine came over (to the East coast)in 1890. However, as I search, if I run into an Adolph I will let you know. Also, I found Glueck cousins in CA after I found their father in the death index and and called the county library. They faxed me the obit. My e-mail is

Dear Judith, I am related to Gluecks through my ggrandmother, Herminie Glueck. She was from Hungary and came to the US in 1865 with her family. Her brothers were Ed, Louis, and Henry. She married Adolph Kline in 1878. Do you have any information on these Gluecks? Thanks

Irene Wells
