Hi Joan, Hi Cousin Doug,
I have found out alot since the last time I
posted. Double E got his nickname from his
initials E.E.
His father's name was Robert who married
Emma Montgomery.
Robert's father was Richard who married Mary
Thompson.
Richard's father was Daniel who married Iliza
Tucker.Daniel was born in 1809. I also have
the names of everyone's children.
E.E. was born in Kentucky. Robert,Richard, and
Daniel were born in W.V. Of course it was
called Virginia back then.I am working on a
family tree. I will give you a copy when
completed. Mary(my wife)and I were invited
to the Jefferson/Hemings family reunion
last May. It was world news. Some of the
historians here suspect we may be decendants
of Sally Hemings or some of the Hemmingses
here at Monticello. I have met with a few
decendants and some have stayed at our house.
A book is being written about the common
blood between the two families. It is due out
next fall. We were both interviewed and may
have a few lines in the book. Joan, has
anyone in your family ever talked about
Monticello?
Later,
Dan

Hi Dan, No, no one really spoke about Monticello. However, My family did talk about possibly being a connection. Our first ancestor arrived in the US from England between 1753 and 1790. They came into MD. as we can figure. I would be facinated by this reunion stuff. Wish my cousin Bob and I would have been invited! I would love a copy of the book, tree or whatever you have. Thanks Daniel.

I ran onto the name Eliza Hemming on a passenger list of the Ship S.S. Alyssinia in 1879. Stated that she was 50 yrs old, and inhabited Canada. Under occupation listed her as "matron". ( Be sure to look out for the Liza's as well as Eliza's in your search

Hi Carolyn,
I have been doing alot of research lately.
My dad (your uncle Norman) did not know his
grandfather's name either until I told him.
I don't think anyone in this family knew
much about ourselves until lately. That is
why I started my search. I have a copy of
E.E.Hemmings' death certificate that list
his parents names on it. I will send you a
copy if you like. I have the names of our
grandparents all the way back to 1804 also.
And a list of some of the children. I have
hit a wall on our ggg-grandfather's parents
names but I am getting closer.
Did you go by the name of Carla when we were
kids? I remember Aunt Jewell and Aunt Maxine.
But I too never met my grandfather. Keep in
touch.
Love,
Cousin Dan (Danny)

Can you help me? My greatgrandfather had a brother named Moses Cobbs that married Minerva Hemmings from KanawhaCo.WV. On the marriage register, I could not read her father's name, but her mothers name was Liza and I was told her father was Daniel. Is this part of your family? If so do you have any information on Moses and Minerva?

Diana,
Yes, I am a direct descendant of Daniel and
Eliza Hemmings. Manerva was their next to
youngest child. They had 10 children
together. I do not have any info on Moses or
Manerva. I do know her year of birth within a
year. I will look it up and write back later.

I am searching for Delilah Hemmings married a George Schultz. there is some indication that Delilah had a sister named Minnie (Minerva) Hemmings. In the 1860 Kanawha County Federal Census they are listed under David Gay 48 yrs old, Delilah Hemmings 12 yo. and Minerva 9 yo. I do not know if our Hemmings are related. I am showing that Delilah's parents were Joshua Hemmings and Rebecca Dana.
