I am searching for any and all members of the Iwanicki family that came from Stefkowa, Lisko district, now in woj. Podkarpackie, Poland. My great-great-grandfather, Piotr Iwanicki (1868-1934) and his wife, Julia Wasyliszyn (1874-1941), came to the U.S. in early 1900s and lived in Morgantown, WV and later in Bellefonte, PA.

Piotr's father was Jan Iwanicki (born 1824) and his mother was Anna Iwanicka (born 1828), who lived in Stefkowa. Many relatives lived there and I haven't pieced them all together.

Many of these families came to work in the coal regions of Pennsylvania and West Virginia, some to Bethlehem area in PA and some to Massachusetts. Related families include Wasyliszyn, Skubiak, and Bury. Any and all contacts welcome!!

Justin

Justin,

My grandmother Catherine Iwanicki came to Salem MA from Stefkowa in 1921. Her husband Anthony Iwanicki and a sister Mary Iwanicki came over a year or 2 later.

I don't know much about her parents or family except that she always told me she had brothers and sisters that she has never met. It was only recently that I found out we came from Stefkowa as she always refered to home as the Ukraine and was raised as Ukrainian and not Polish.

Anyway she had three children - Mary, Anthony and John (my father). Only John is deceased, the rest of the family is still in Salem except Gram's sister Mary Czerchawski who lives in NH with her daughter.

Feel free to contact me if you want more info about my side or know something that I might be interested in.

- John

I was browsing the web for "Stefkowa, Poland" where my father was from. I discovered this thread of messages. My father's name is Stephan Evanitsky. He is now deceased. I have his passport. It lists his village as Stefkowa. The passport contains information about him and his younger brother Michael and sister, Rose. His name on the passport is listed as Stefan Iwanicki. The dates on the passpost are October 1930. The sponsoring family were the Skubiaks who lived on Neville Island near Pittsburgh. He lived most of his life in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. His stepfather was John Kmit. Steve had four children. We also have cousins in Toronto who spell their name Evanytsky.

Hello John,

I saw this reply to my post from long ago. I am certainly interested in your branch of the Iwanicki family. My great-grandmother had a brother Anthony but he did not come to America. He was deported in 1944-45 to Vasilyevka, Ukraine.

I don't seem to have immigration record of your grandmother but am very interested in what you have to share on the family.

I've created a website of Stefkowa genealogy.

It has 542+ immigrants, information and pictures obtained there, etc.

I look forward to hearing from you!!

Hello Eugene,

I saw your recent post. My great-grandmother had a brother Stefan Iwanicki but he did not leave Poland.

I have compiled a website for Stefkowa, including the names of over 530 immigrants.

Please get in touch with me and hopefully we can connect our family lines.

Dear Justin,

I myself have been researching where my family comes from. My family is 100% Polish, and mostly come from southeastern Poland which makes it helpful to find out where they come from. I have most information on my Iwanicki side of the family. Most of my Iwanicki family comes from Stefkowa.

The most I have goes back to my great-great-grandfather, Stefan Iwanicki. I do not know when he was born, but I know he comes from Stefkowa. He had at least one child, Jozef Iwanicki, born on 19 Mar, 1898. That means Stefan was born around the 1860-1880 era. His wife's name was Julia Fracz. Her maiden name might be wrong. It is either Fracz, Fiacz, Tracz, or Tiacz.

All the information I have comes from my great grandmother's marriage certificate. Her name was Antonina Iwanicka zol. Mielmiczek. The Mielmiczeks come from Olzanica. Well Antonina married Jozef on February 15, 1922. On the back of the marriage certificate are two witnesses to the marriage. One is Michael, (or Michal, Michel) Iwanicki. This might be either Jozef's cousin, brother, or uncle. The other is Ignacy Łabaj. I am pretty sure that his first name is Ignacy, but I may be wrong.

Please notify if any of the information matches yours!
