Salemi's in Sicily

My Grandfather was Nicolo Salemi, His father was Cologero Salemi who married Francesca Cali, she was born November 25, 1887 in Sicily, daughter of Matteo Cali and Gaetana Spinelli. My grandfathers siblings are: Angelina (Angie)- Nicolos twin sister, Matteo, Biagio, Gaetano and Elizabetha (Betty). Cologero and Francesca migrated to NY...Harlem. Most of siblings deceased but 1 still in NY and 1 in FL.

Seeking ANY information on the Salemi's line and any currently residing in Sicily for an upcoming trip would be helpful. Thank You, Judi dendro@earthlink.net

Read your 2002 posting. I have Salemi relatives that lived in Siculiana, Sicily. It is a small town between Sciacca and Agrigento. They came to NY in the early 1900s. Their names were Domenico and Antonio. They married into the Marino and Siggia families. I don't know if they could be related. Let me know if any of this strikes a bell.

Hi Fran,

I'm researching a Marino family in Sicily with a Salemi twig...

Domenico MARINO married Clementine SALEMI . marriage date between 1880-1890.

Only known son...

Giuseppe MARINO (b.1889 Agrigento Italy) married Anna SANNA in 1923.

Kind regards,
Sherrie.
Sydney, Australia.

Hi Sherrie,

I am in New York. It would be great if there is some connection so far away.

Anyway, I have relatives with the names Marino, Salemi, Siggia and Siracusa. You say they were from Agrigento. Agrigento is a province in Sicily as well as a city. Do you know the name of the town? I have been there 4 times, and my relatives come from a seaside town called Siculiana. All of my relatives came to New York and settled in the city, Brooklyn or Staten Island where I live.

My mother is 84 and remembers her godparents who were a Domenico Salemi and Antonina Marino. Please write to me again and let me know what discoveries you have made.

Fran

Hi Judi, don't know if this will be of help but my mother was a Salemi. Her family came from Corleone. I was there a few years ago and met a cousin and her family from the Salemi line. Her name is Francesca Marino.

My grandfather was Vincenzo Salemi. He came to the USA around 1903 and married my Grandmother, Lucia Terranova in NYC.

Lots of Sicilians settled in New Orleans.

Wish you luck with your search and trip. Happy New Year.

Lucille

PS The way I found my relatives was to write to three people in Corleone with the same last name (Salemi). It got the names from the telephone book pages on line. I chose three Vincenzo's because that was my grandfather's name. One didn't answer, one did but said we were not related. The third wrote and said we were not related but was kind enough to research my family back to 1937 and also told me my cousin Francesca was still alive and living there. I looked up her address and we have been corresponding ever since.
