Schlie family

I am a descendant of Schlie's from Klein-Heindorn, Germany , which has now been incorporated into Hannover, Germany. My Great Grandfather was Fredrick Schlie married to Sophie Luppert. They were the first immigrants here from this side of the family. My Grandfather was Julius Schlie married to Anna Marie Reminger, whose family immigrated from Austria. Julius's brother, Arnold married Anna's sister Rose. My father was Willard Joseph Schlie. My grandfather's sister, Francis, married Charles Baker. My entire family lived in Independence, Mo. (Jackson county) Survivors of the Schlie family now include my two brothers, Fred W. and Gary R. Schlie.....my sister, Kitty, and all their children. Years ago Fred and Gary and I (Juli) received information from a distant , distant cousin in Germany that our family was traced through a long line of Hans Fredricks back to about 1460 AD. As of yet no coat of arms has surfaced... I was told at one point by a gentleman who did heraldry that our last name was origianlly a suffix.....as in Schlie-mann or Schlie-ker so on. Interestingly the family tree back to the 1400's showed only the Schlie name. I accredit this to the Martin Luther split from the Catholic church. Notoriously, the followers of Luther, the Lutherans, dropped the ends of their names or changed them in such a way as not to identify with their Catholic cousins. I can attest that we were from a long line of Lutherans.
Hope some of this helps anyone......

Juli Ann Schlie

My grandmother was Minerva Schlie, married Joseph Brown. She was from Elgin Illinois. My line also comes from Klein-Heidorn but I only go back to 1623. If you would like to discuss this, that would be great

Tim, I'm so sorry that I have not replied before now. Apparently my alerts were not on and if it were not for my niece telling me there was a reply I would never have known. I'd be glad to get the info from my brothers and share this with you. Sounds like we could be cousins down the line! I'll try to do this in a more timely fashion!
