My great grandparents on both sides of my family came from the Czech Republic (Bohemia) around 1900.

Adolph POLACEK & Otilia DUB, married in New York and eventually settled in Chicago where Adolph's many brothers and sisters lived.

Frank BEDNAR met Mary VESELY in 1905 in Chicago and married. Mary's brothers Charles & John had also immigrated. Frank & Mary moved to Stevensville, MI in 1930. We are unsure if any relatives came over with Frank. Family legend has it that he fell out with his family and never spoke of them (but we don't know when that happened). We also think that there is a connection to the GRAF family.

Here is what I know. Helen Koranda married Adolph Graf. They are both buried in Resurrection Cemetery and I am currently in the process of taking photos. Also, I can tell you what happened to the siblings and where some are buried. I know someone on the Graf side is alive because one of the graves is well-kept. Also each plot has a HUGE MONUMENT, both for GRAF and BEDNAR. When I go next to Resurrection, Ill get photos.

I'd love to see the photos.
Yes there is at least one Graf still going strong. If I remember correctly, a Graf married one of my great uncles (Bednar), and her sister and nephew are still living. We definitely need to compare trees. Email me off the board and when I'm home I'll pull the files and see what I have

Eileen,
Helen Koranda Graf was one of the sisters that visited my grandparents, Albert & Mary Moses in Monona, Iowa. Helen was a dau of Rosalia & Frank Koranda. Rosalia's maiden name was Kaska, her father Thomas. Do you have any information about the Kaska side of this family?

I am looking for my Great Grandfather, His Name is Thomas Caska (Kaska) he was from Austria, Bohemia, he came to the United States in 1863 with his wife who was Mary, I don't know her last name. She and Thomas had five children, maybe more,
Barrary 1866, born in Austria
Frank born 1870, born Illinois

John 1872, born Wisconsin,
John is my Grandfather, he spelled his name Caska and married March 17, 1903, Mae (Nica) Bliss 1885-1912 in Plattsburgh, New York.

Wenzel born in Wisconsin 1874
Matthias born in Wisconsin 1879
There might be more children, not sure .

I can't find anymore information on anyone, but John Caska and his wife Mae Nica Bliss Caska.
My Great Grandfather spelled his name Caska, but I have been finding information with the spelling of Kaska. Grandpa Thomas Caska's naturalization papers was spelled Caska.

If anyone knows of these Kaska, Caska names and finds anything, Please email me at

Hi! I hope you still come on and check this. However you sparked my interest! My Great Grandfather is Feliks Bednarski, he came her from Poland. I know that he came here and met his 2 brothers that were already over here. Feliks got into a fist fight with one of his brothers and was "disowned" from the family. I wonder if Frank Bednar was his brother...
p.s. Feliks came over to the US in 1911, I have his marriage certificate which states his parents names
Here is my email

Look forward to hear from you or anyone :-)
Thanks!
