Looking for some help/clarification from PA Janoskos. I've found family listed from sharon/mercer county pa. I've also found a census from 1930 that appears to be correct. What has me confused is that it lists a parents place of birth as austria, and language as slovak. I was told my family is czech. Can anyone enlighten me? I am specifically looking for info relating to John Paul, born 1914, to parents Andrew and Mary.

I have run into this situation also. The reason that Austria comes up is because at that time in history the area now known as the Czech republic was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. anybody born there during this time would have had an Austrio-Hungarian passport and papers.

My family is from pa and they came over from Austria-Hungary at that time. My Great Grandfathers name is Paul John Janosko. They are from Slovakia. I still have some Great aunts that speak Slovack. The country was Austria-Hungary in 1867, before that time it was just refered to Hungary. Today it is know as different countries most of them since 1918 after WWI.
