My OWEN ancestor Arthur OWEN b1770 d1830 Wayne Co, KY m 1794 to Lucy KELLY b1774 Va dUnknown. I know of four of their children: Jonathan b1801, William b1806, Josiah b1811 Wayne Co, KY and Samuel OWEN b 1813 Wayne Co, KY. It is thought that Josiah's first wife's surname was BELL but it has not been proven.
Josiah & 1st wife had six children, the first 3 were Telitha 1835, William 1837, Arthur 1840 and were born in KY. The last three were Jonathan 1842, Alvin 1846 and Rhoda 1848 were born in Missouri. His wife did not show up in the 1850 Census, so it is assumed that she died after 1848 and before 1850 and that they left Kentucky after 1840 and before 1842. Many descendants are in Ozark Co, Mo.
If anyone connects with this family, I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks. Please e-mail GmpiGma@aol.com

Hi Jean,

Well, I have a feeling we may be cousins. I am away from home right now on business and can't sleep in this stuffy hotel room, so I thought I would browse some queries.

My Young and Owen(s) line also migrated from Wayne County KY to Ozark County, MO, then on to Texas about 1853.

My John Young married Rhoda Owen(s) in Wayne County, KY in 1822, and had children: 2 daughters, names unknown, Samuel, JOSIAH, Martin, Ezekiel, Jane, George W., and Thomas J. Around 1833 they moved to what was Taney County. In 1841, the portion they lived in became Ozark County. Josiah Owens lived near them according to the census. I suspect Josiah and Rhoda were brother/sister. Hence Rhoda naming a child Josiah and Josiah naming a daughter Rhoda.

Also, I have some papers belonging to John Young. One of them mentions a Washington Young and Josiah Owens and I believe is dated in teh 1830's or 1840's. We have may papers with the Young name on them. These are mostly a bunch of IOUs and other notes, as John was a county judge. I will be home tomorrow evening and will check the exact text of this note. Wouldn't it be neat if this note was referring to your ancestor?

Talk to you soon,

Norman Lewis

Wayne Co.: An Hopson OWEN(S) was wit to something with Rhoda OWEN(S) when she m John YOUNG if I recall correctly. This particular family for some reason added the letter "s" to their name in Wayne Co. It is EN if you see Hopson/Hobson OWEN among your family data. I descend from this Owen line- they descend from Bartholemew OWEN of Surry Co. and his sons of Henrico/Chesterfield counties whose descendants spread across Va. to Ky.

I am putting new bookcases in my computer room and all my files are in boxes on the floor. It will take me weeks to find the bond you want.

Write to the Wayne Co Court House in Monticello, send them $1.00 and a SASE and they will send it to you.

I would very much like to get a copy of the hand written list by Susie Rice Young.

My grandfather, Foxie Young was a brother to Elmer.

Their parents were William Andrew Young and Celia Belle Burnett. William was born 11-25-1867 in Carlinsville, Macoupin Co., IL and died 05-15-1949 in Monticello, Wayne Co., KY. Celia was born 05-03-1869 in Clinton Co., KY and died 12-17-1921. Both are buried in the Young Cemetery in Rice Hollar, Parmleysville, KY.

They had 14 children. Elmer, Edna, Effie, Obie, Reubin, Owen, Floyd, Rona, Foxie, Hatey, Ernie, Lena, Lela and Ramie.

I have been able to trace back to John Young born in 1766 in Washington Co., VA. John would be my GGGG grandfather.

I would love to share my information with you.

I have John Young, Jr. and Rhoda Owens in my family tree. I am sorry to say I don't have any further information on Rhoda as Young is the family tree that I am working on.

John Young, Jr. was born 1794 in Washington Co., VA and died after 1845 in MO. John and Rhoda were married 07-11-1822 in Wayne Co., KY.

John's parents were John Young and Susannah Whisenhunt.
