Have just reviewed your answer. My great-grandmother, Flora Bell Sheppard, is in Collin County, Texas 1880 Census. She is in the household of a Lou Ann Smith, if I recall all of this correctly. In July of 1880, she married my great-grandfather, Gabriel Jones Davie. Is it possible that she was one of Francis' children who came to Texas. She was about 23 when she married my great-grandfather who was in his mid-40s. Is it possible that my date of death for Francis is incorrect? Where in Texas did the other children go to live with an aunt? SDH

I have been researching my records, which for the most part have been provided me by other descendants. I have copies of some marriage records from Quchita Parish by grooms names. These records show: F.M. Sheppard to Mary A.E. Butler May 4, 1857 (this one because of dates is definitely not in my line). Frances Sheppard (my gg grandfather) to Elizabeth McGrew April 3, 1852. Francis Sheppard to Mrs. Ananda Vickers April 2, 1856 (my great-grandmother, Flora, was born March 10, 1857, so I believe Amanda Vickers was her mother). By the 1860 Census Amanda was no longer there, so I am assuming she died? Lastly, I have Francis M. Sheppard married Mrs. Lucinda A. Miller July 31, 1863. On the records I was sent on one of the group sheet, it indeed lists Lucinda Miller as Francis' third wife, married
July 31, 1863. So I assume Francis Sheppard's middle name was Marion. I have one other group sheet in this family that shows a child named "Marion", so it was a name that the family used. On my records, it says Francis died in 1863, so he died sometime after July 31st. I have his birth date as 1818 in Georgia. I cannot find where he was buried. If you believe this is your family, I will send you what other information I have. SDH

Sara, I also am looking for a Francis Sheppard. Probably not the same one as yours but possible. My great grandfather, Francis M Sheppard married Mrs. Lucinda A. Miller, July 1863. He is in Quachita Parrish in 1870 and Morehouse Parrish in 1880. She died but not sure when or which Parrish. He died in 1886 and the 3 children went to Texas to live with an aunt. Could he have first married Amanda Vickers? ? I cannot find any earlier info on him. Am checking now to see if he was in C. War. There was an F and an F.M. from Quachita. Anything you have that might be a clue, please pass it on. Thanks Novella

Hi Novella,
I had a researcher in Quachita Parish check for me and my Francis Sheppard died in 1863. For me, this documents for sure the date of his death. This was in the middle of the Civil War, so he may have died while fighting the war. Have you found any more information on your Francis. This means my grandmother, Flora Sheppard, was orphaned at the age of 6. Her mother married Francis in 1856 and Flora was born in 1857. In 1860, Flora is in the census with her father, Francis, and other children that belonged to her mother, Amanda (Cobb) Vickers. My grandmother Flora doesn't surface again anywhere until she is about 23 years old living in Collin County, Texas 1880 Census, being a boarder in the home of a Crane family. Would enjoy hearing from you again.

The Cobbs in my family go back to the early 1800s. I have no information later than around 1860 when my great-great grandmother Amanda Cobb died in I believe Quachita Parish, Louisiana. She married my great-great grandfather, Francis Sheppard, in Quachita Parish. Prior to that marriage she had been married to James Vickers, who died, and they had several children who were left in the household with Francis Sheppard and my great-grandmother, Flora Bell Sheppard, who was Amanda's ony child with Francis. James Vickers mother was Elizabeth Vickers and just prior to the Civil War she left Louisiana for Texas and resided in Texas for awhile or possibly died there. That is about all the information I have.
