We're from the Richard L. Cawood family, of Ohio, and our grandfather, Richard L. Cawood, wrote a book, "Who's That Fellow Cawood", which traced his roots back to John de Cawood. In fact, we have a portion of the original deed to the Cawood Castle, along with the stamp sealing the document. His research is exhaustive and thorough, having communicated with historians from Oxford and elsewhere, over a twenty year period.

I'd like to hear from other Cawood's.

Richard

Richard,
Would it be possible for you to email a copy of the Cawood Castle deed that you spoke of? My roots also trace back to Cawood, England.

Hi Richard
I would be very interested in knowing more about your document from Cawood castle. I belong to a local history group in Cawood and we have just received funding to investigate the history of the garth ( the outer part of the castle) and your information would be very valuable. We have already completed surveys of the archaeology and are awaiting the reults. I would love to know more about your family history as my husband is also in the Cawood family
Looking forward to hearing from you

Our family of Cawood's came over to America, arriving in St. Mary's Maryland back in the early 1700's. John and Stephen Cawood are our ancestors, and the last surviving ancestor of our's was Richard Lawrence Cawood of East Liverpool, Ohio.

Warm regards,

Richard

Do you have a tree of the Cawoods that you have discovered so far? Does anyone post their trees anywhere so others do not have to do the same searches?

Yes, I think we just might have a family tree tucked away somewehere in the house. If you pass along your shipping address, I'll see if I can get a color xerox of it and send it to you, if you'd like.

Best,

Richard

While I am not a member of the Cawood, my grandparents were given a beautiful piece of furniture that was purposed to come from a "castle in Europe" in approx 1922-23. It has been handed down to my brother and is still in perfect condition. My grandparents were married in E. Liverpool. I just returned from a short trip back and actually took pictures of the Cawood villa which I believe is on St Clair St. It is run down but still holds a majestic presence. Spanish villa type architecture. Also took a photo of the Cawood cemetary plot marker in the Riverview cemetery. I realize it has been quite some time since you posted but I am on a mission to learn what I can about the past and would love to know more about the Cawood and Ervin families of the early 1900's if you can help.

Hello, My name is Paul Shockley. The current owners of the Richard L Cawood Mansion is Mary Huff. She lives in East Palestine Ohio. I actually had done a lot of summer work at the mansion last summer. My parents were actually planning to buy the mansion. It has a lot of history some known & some unknown there has been several celebrities at the mansion one that's very famous was Marilyn Monroe. The house has 4 bedrooms & 9 bathrooms. A guest house & a chapel. The grounds are very nice but it is very run down. It's known as the castle where we live at. People break in there all the time because it looks abandon.

I am a Cawood Caywood Descendant to John de Caywood.
One of my relatives visited the Cayood mansion many years ago and spoke of the elegance of the property. I would especially like to have pictures of the property. A distant cousin of mine has a web site about the Cawood/Caywood family. I can be reached at LOISGUFFY@sctelcom.net for comment.
