Dear Graham,
I recently received a marriage cert for James CUNLIFFE of Curzon St, Burnley, who married a Mary Anne Pilkington of Rodney Street Burnley on 24th March 1844. James's father was called James and Mary Anne's father thomas. They had a child in 1852 they named Thomas - not yours obviously - but could the Rodney Street address be a link to some common info. Hi Nick,

Read with interest your message board e-mail Nov.2001.
I have been frustrated in my attempts to find information on my grandparents John Thomas Pickles and Ellen Pickles (nee Cunliffe). The best clue I have is my departed parents marriage certificate which indicates my father was born in Burnley UK. In your research of the Cunliffe's in Burnley would the name Ellen Cunliffe ever appear. My father was born in Bunley about 1885 and was one of 11 children (I think).

Kind regards
John Pickles

Dear Mr Pickle,
Many thanks for your reply to the message board notice. My link with Burnley begins in 1844 and then my Cunliffes moved from there sometime before 1853. I have not come across John THomas PICKLES or Ellen CUNLIFFE as of yet. However, having done a brief search of Free BMD I found a reference for there marriage certificate. The reference is as follows:-
The marriage took place in the March Quarter of 1887
PICKLES John Thomas Burnley 8e 316
CUNLIFFE Ellen Burnley 8e 316

So if you send this reference asking for their marriage certificate, a cheque for £6.50 (not sure who it should be made payable to) to the SUperintendent Registrar
Burnley & Pendle Registry Office [Tel +44 (0)1282 436116]
12 Nicholas Street
Burnley
Lancashire
BB11 2AQ
YOu could also telephone them to find out who to make the cheque payable to. I've just had a thought ! You might not live in the UK ! Ah well, if you give me more info I'll see what I can do for you. I have also had a brief look at the 1881 UK census and will post any references I think might be of any use so you could make your own mind up as to their relevance - or have you done this already ?

Look forward to hearing from you
