I am trying to find out about my great grandfather William J Feeney who was a farmer at a place called "Water Hatch" in Beverley W.A. in 1878 when my grandfather (James Edward) was born. Jameses birth certificate gives mother's name as Mary McResoon. I don't know where or when William J was born.

My name is also Garry Feeney, I live in NSW. My GtGtGrandfather was John Feeney he came from Glenkillamy, Co. Sligo in 1851 with wife Bridget Cullen aboard "Garland". We don't know to much about John's family, we only know he had a sister Mary that his parents were Miles Mary (Tighe. His sister came to Australia in 1856. Their parents were still alive then, but we can't find anymore info. What info do you have on your family, Garry.

I am looking for information on two brothers that left Ireland in the 1840's.Althought I am not sure of their background. Indications are that they where farmers, from the mountains west couny of Connaught, probly county Galway West of the river Shannon. The older brother John was married to Ann McCashan. They came to Canada by ship landing in Saint John, NewBrunswick.

Thankyou for your response to the message I posted. I haven't bee able to trace my folks back to Ireland yet. Colonial records in Australia around the time of settlement of the Swan River Colony (now Perth Western Australia) were very sketchy. My Great Great Grandfather was called William John and as far as I know the first James was my grandfather and he was born in Western Australia. I think it is unlikely that there is any relationship to the people you are seeking. However, if you want to keep in touch let me know and we can exchange Email addresses. Garry

Hi,
I'm not so sure that Elizabeth Mary Feeney is the daughter of John and Bridget. You have Elizabeth being born in 1869 in or near Muswellbrook.
John and Bridget settled at Rockley near Bathurst, and it appears that Bridget died in childbirth in 1863.
I think that the two Feeney families may be related as they both came from Glenkillamy a small glen in county Sligo. If not related, they probably knew each other.
Hope this helps, and please correct me if I am wrong or you have any other info that we can put together.

I completed (or stopped) researching John William Feeney many years ago when I had a different email address so I never knew about your post until now. I know John Feeney was areigned at York for unlawful carnal knowledge and transported to WA. Anything prior to his conviction is unknown to me. I believe he was about 18 or 19 at the time of the offense. As I have indicted in the document I compiled and someone subsequently put on the net (without my consent), he arrived in Australia as Finney and subsequently became Feeney (possibly due to a misunderstanding by the authorities). He claimed to come from Sligo. Anything you can tell me would be welcome.
