My grandfather was Harris Solomon and all records say Russian. What is the Russian/ Yiddish name given for Harris?

It's really not as simple as that - while there are often common English equivalents of a person's Yiddish/Russian/Polish/whatever name, there is no rule. The "original" name may start with an "H" sound (well, not in Russian), but it equally likely may not.

What records do you have for your grandfather? Census? Naturalization? Passenger manifest? Do you know his Hebrew name?

I have Census 1900 Boston, Chelsa, Mass. I know it is the correct family due to the names of the children. I have the manifest of my grandmother, Bertha/Judith. She arrived in 1884. This is an old family and I was the last granddaugter and my father died when I was only 10 and too young to ask questions. Thanks for your help. Judy, email: jbarr909@yahoo.com
