Looking for a missing link. Samuel DuPre Simons, of Middleburg Plantation, had a son Samuel Henry Simons, who had a son William Cleland Simons, born in 1750. Who were William Cleland's children? I believe his son was Samuel Samuel, born in 1810, who moved to Philadelphia. My great great grandfather. But not sure.

Kim,
Yes. That is who I am looking for. Who were Samuel Henry's children? Better yet, who were his grandchildren?
And why did a later Samuel, born in 1810 at Middleburg, leave South Carolina for Philadelphia?
Thanks, Jeremy

I have the census records for this Samuel Simons from 1860, 1870, 1910 and 1920
I am a descendant of this Samuel and his son, CHarles.

John,
That is great to hear. I have a picture taken in the 1880s of Samuel Simons, born "on a plantation" in 1810 in South Carolina, with his son, Samuel McClellan, and grandchildren Samuel, Charles, Elizabeth, and others. They all lived in Philadelphia. Is this your family?
All the best, Jeremy

My grandfather was Charles Simons, and my Great Grandfather was Charles M Simons, which had me poking around the Simons family. I found the following during my search:
In the 1920 Census, for Pennsylvania, Delaware County, Aldan Borough, 50 Woodland Avenue (this is the outskirts of Philadlephia)
Samuel, Head age 70, Father born in S Carolina Caroline, Wife, age 70 Son Charles, age 34 Daughter in Law Grace Grandson Charles A.
I also found Samuel Simons in the 1860 and 1870 census records for Philadelphia. In 1860, Samuel is a bricklayer, born in S Carolina, age 45, living with Elizabeth, Mary, Margaret, Samuel Jr, Anna, Julia. Found in the 10th Ward, pg 795.
Finally, I found Samuel in the 1870 Census, listed as age 60, with son Samuel and daughter Anna. This is at 3106 Hamilton St. 77th District, 24th Ward page 336
Neither Charles is my Grandfather, although they had me going down that road for a while as my grandfather's middle initial is also A.
Hope you find that helpful.
Regards, J Foley
