I believe that your grandmother's maiden name or Father's name might have been Lilio. That is one of the title names in Samoa.

Can anyone please help me locate my Samoan Grandmother's family ? My grandmother's name was 'Siila' Lilio / Ilio and would have been in Samoa around the turn of last century (1900). I believe she was married before being married to my grandfather, Harry Edgar Childs in Fiji, to a "Beddoes'.
I would really appreciate some help I even have found her grave in Auckland NZ.
Thank you in anticipation

Talofa/Hello:

Could the surname GREAG have been spelled GREIG... at one time or another?

I am searching WILLIAM-GREIG of Cook Islands [progenitor from Scotland] and your Samoan grandmother 'Siila' Laisa Lilio/Ilio GREAG came to my mind.

There is a GREAG/GREIG with a middle name of Lilo - coincidental? When I find the data I will save it this time.

In the meantime... what are your thoughts?

Manaia. I had that thought too, so asked David Greig, the eldest Greig family member living in NZ, but he does not know of this person or any early Samoan connections. There are some later in the 1900s, via the Gilbert Islands.
If you want details of William Greig I can get them for you.

Anyone from the Falelatai village having knowledge of the Apia police station and how to contact someone in the records department, - faamolemole/please - let us know.

Appreciate everyone's efforts to stumble some brick walls.

Surnames: Childe, Wilson
Hi, Interesting info. My Dad who started this thread actually passed away in 2004. So I will be taking over the research.

The surname back then was Childe (with an E) Siila also lived in Fiji when Harry left for the war in 1917. His next of kin on record being -
Mrs Siila Childe (wife), Levuka, Fiji. She also had a sister Lizzie who married a Captain Wal Wilson - in Fiji also.

Thank you for the follow-ups.
