Looking for Information on Antonio D'Angelo

Surnames: D'Angelo DeAngelo
Hello,

I am trying to find information on my great-grandfather Antonio D'Angelo. Unfortunately, there is little known in my family about him so I don't have much to go on.

We believe that Antonio D'Angelo was born in Fiumara, Reggio, Calabria, ITALY sometime around 1870. The year is not certain. He married Carmella (surname unknown) and had 5 children there. He migrated alone to the United States in 1903 (date uncertain). Once there he did not have his family join him and they remained in Italy. It is believed that he was living in New York, New Jersey or the eastern part of Pennsylvania after he arrived.

I am hoping to find out two things. First, what happened to Antonio after he arrived here? Second, who were his parents and when was he born? Without this information I am unable to trace our family beyond this point.

If anyone can help it will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Scott

I'm not sure if this is coincidence since all of our information does not match, but my husband's grandfather was named Antonio D'Angelo. From what we know, he left a wife in Italy. His named apparently was originally DeAngelo, but was changed to D'Angelo. He came to the U.S. perhaps because of the mafia (as stories have told) and a friend owed him a favor.

We found who we believe to be him on ellisisland.org and that information states that he last lived in Acerra and was born in 1890, arrived in U.S. in 1913. This is where our information differs. Also, he ended up settling in West Virginia, not NJ or PA. I also had found on another site that he came over with his brother Pasquale who later returned to Italy.

I do not know if this is the same Antonio, but I thought it was such a coincidence that I should reply to you!

Hi Scott,
I was checking up the orignins of my maiden name also D'Angelo and found your message instead. My grandfather's eldest brother allegedly left Sicily at the turn of the last century to find prosperity in America. However they lost track of him. When I see my father I will check out his christian name to see if it matches. This brother was born in Cerami,Sicily. I wonder if it is the same man. Do you know of any siblings? Interested in hearing more. best wishes from a fellow D'Angelo in Australia.I have provided my work email.cheers,ciao.

I am still searching for my grandfather whose name is D'Angelo. I was born in West Virginia, and I never saw a photo of my grandfather. Does anyone have a photo of Antonio De'Angelo. There was an Italian grocer in West Virginia and could have been my grandfather. I would appreciate any help.

Thanks,
MEJartiste
