Donna, Have you information on Harrison Jackson.Burkes. Harrison J. was the father of my grandfather, Silas Marion Burks. Silas was born in 1851. I have read where he went to Arkansas after being paroled after the Battle of Vicksburg. I would like any help. d.m.

I talked to a Summerlin from Holmes county that was researching Harrison J Burkes. He told me that Harrison J died in Arkansas during the war. His wife and family were farmed out with her family the Adcocks and Harrison's brothers Stephen G and Silas who lived in Neshoba County.Martha later married a preacher and moved to Holmes county and the Burkes line married into the Summerlins.

Bea, for several years I have talked with Janes Summerlin. Harrison Jackson was my grandfather's daddy.I have found little of Harrison.I was told he died in Ark. I think James told me that. I have a copy of his parole after Vicksburg. Maybe he went to Ark to recover. In the Neshoba County census of 1860 he is listed on page 685.

I cannot place Sarah. My grand father is Silas Marion Burks. Notice the name spelling. Silas was born Sept. 6, 1861. I remember him. Silas was married , Aug. 23, 1891 to Laura Annie Baldridge Thornton. If I can be of help with their offsprings just ask, I knew them all. I live in Ocean Springs, Ms and am an old, tired teacher. I am looking for Milton, Burks, Munson, Simpson and have no pride, will accept any help. Dudley Milton.

They are too young to be the Wm H. and Rebecca Burk I was speaking of, they were both born 1770's. The O'Neal name makes me wonder if the family you are speaking of were not related because my grandfather's name is John O'Neal Burk and his son William O'Neal Burk. I have not traced the O'Neal name anywhere in the family. The Burk's I am speaking of were also in TROUP CO. GA. and later ended up in Talladega Co.AL. A few moved west to Texas.
