Scots who fought in the second Boer War

My grandfather, Charles Roberton and his older brother Thomas are both missing from the 1901 census. They were the right age to have been away fighting in the second Boer War. They came from Bonhill in Dunbartonshire and I know there was a volunteer troop from that area. Does anyone know how I could trace whether they were part of that troop or fighting in the Boer War?

Many thanks,
Fiona

hi, i have just found that my grt granduncle(grt grandmother's brother) fought in the 2nd boer war in the 20th batallion imperial yeomanry(rough riders). i found this on ancestry.co.uk under uk military campaign medal and award rolls 1793-1949. try searching that once you put your ancestors names in the search box. hope that helps!
