Am researching Cambridge line which was in Franklin, County Indiana from 1811-1843, then emigrated to Johnson County, Iowa. Related names are Petty, Cox, Malson. Will gladly exchange information.

I wonder if your ancestors came from the UK?
Camidge is found mainly around York but some members emigrated to America in 1850 and some before that. The number of times I have spelt out my name and the person has turned round and called me Cambridge. Could there have been a misspelling or pronuciation at some time over the last 200 years?

Dear Bernard,
None of your icons strike a chord. My Cambridge family originated in Worcester (or Somerset) Cty MD c. 1740. Maybe from the Bahamas, maybe an Irish or English sailor from Hull or Cobh. Anyway, glad to hear from another of the clan.
Best regards,
Dan Cambridge

Hi Karen
Delighted to have your reply. At last I have made contact with someone who is prepared to investigate a link between Cambridge and Camidge. They could have been misheard or mispelt anywhere along the line.
Yes, I would love to know more about your early records. Your coat of arms is intreaguing.
There is a pedigree of Camidge compiled by Hugh Murray on Camidges from around the city of York, England.
Robert Camidge was buried in 1735. He had six children.
His 5th child, Leonard, was the start of a line that eventually went to America in 1850 and I have two full pedigrees of their decendents who are now in USA.
The 2nd child of Robert was anothr Robert, baptised 21 Oct 1689. That Robert had six children.
John was the 6th child and the start of the line of organists in York Minster.
The eldest child was William from which my line decends.
The first child of this William was another William, baptised on the borders of North Yorkshire and County Durham, recorded as CAMBRIDGE
The children of this marriage were all recorded as CAMBRIDGE
Charles was baptised on 19th September 1779 as Charles CAMBRIDGE but the copy of the entry shows an amendment, the BR have been crossed out.
This Charles CAMIDGE moved to the West coast of England, Warrington then Liverpool.

I woulld be interested in the locality of your ancesters in the 17 and 18 hundreds. Also, what you know about your grandfather Arthur.
Hope we can help each other.
Jean

I am also researching this line of Cambridges. Specifically my grandmother, Dana Cambridge b.1882, in Iowa and travelled to Idaho about 1887. Her great uncles were Silas and Middleton (Milton) Cambridge. (sons of John F.Cambridge and Susannah Petty.) However, she never knew who her mother was. My "theory" is that she may have been a child of Almeda Cambridge, perhaps born out of wedlock. I am running out of hope that I will ever figure this out, but what an interesting family to research!

My name is Teresa and an a descendant to Cecil E. Cambridge, II or Jr. (deceased) (depends on which records you look at). Son of Cecil E. Cambridge married to Aberta Madge Gill (both Deceased) , Grandson of Cecil Emery Cambridge married to Anna Francis Whitaker.

My family has lived in Indiana for all of these generations that I have figured out.

I am looking for as much ancestral data on these people as possible. I have no one I can ask since all the elders in my family are mainly deceased.

Do you have any information that would help me.
