Good afternoon,
For those of you with Lurinda (Lucinda) Coldiron in your genealogies, her death date has always been somewhat of a mystery. I have what I consider to be a good source of that death date at this time.

Lurinda, daughter of William "Billy" Coldiron and Leah Lewis, b. 1848, Harlan Co., KY, married David F. Noe b. May 1864, d. 12 Jan 1933, Rockcastle Co, KY.

Lurinda disappears from the record shortly before the 1900 census. She is listed in the Will of her father, William, in 1886, and She and David subsequently sold their portion of the land to another of the heirs - if anyone needs that document, I will get in my records here and send it out to you.

I recently interviewed Lurinda's grandson, Dale. Dale indicated that his mother, Minty Jane Noe, had to raise the rest of the children when her mother died when Jane was 12. He heard the stories of her caring for the other children often when he was growing up (he was raised in his teen years with his mother, Bertha, in Jane's home), and is certain of Jane's chronology.

Jane was born, May 31, 1878 in Harlan County.

David F. Noe, husband of Lurinda Coldiron, is found as a widower in the Census records of 1900 in Harlan County, but moved with most of his grown children and their families to Rockcastle County, KY by the 1910 census.

From these two pieces of information, we can assume that Lurinda Coldiron died in the after June of 1890 and before May 31, 1991, in Harlan County, KY.

No, I don't. I looked all through the Coldiron Book and find no reference for this Ann or this Pennington. Have you contacted Otto Coldiron for info on this person?

I have an Ann Coldiron who married an Aaron Pennington in my database. I have her as a daughter of Conrad Coldiron b. abt 1760 Berks Co., PA, and Rachel Hendricks, b. abt. 1763 in Rowan Co.,NC. Conrad and Rachel started their family in Rowan Co., NC in 1783. The family moved to Ashe Co, NC in 1791 and stayed there until ?. They were on their way to Kentucky and probably stopped in Lee Co., VA because one of their children, the last one, was born in Virginia in 1803. They reached Knox(now Harlan) Co., KY in 1803, where Rachel died.

I found Aaron, age 73, and Ann Pennington, age 60 on the 1860 US Census, Harlan Kentucky, so she was b. abt 1800. Stated she was born in Virginia.

I saw Ann included in this family group in trees posted to Ancestry.com. I don't know how accurate their source information was. But it makes sense. Some of the children listed as Aaron's were born when Ann would have been too young to be their mother, so perhaps Ann was his second wife...? Hope this helps a litle.

Just for reference, The Dale that Carol interviewed was not the grandson of David Noe and Lurinda Coldiron, he was their great grandson and grandson of Minty Jane Noe Hensley.
