From the Library of Virginia, I know that there is information of the McCoy Family and Hiner Family of whom I'm related. There is information, of which I have some, called "The Hiner Papers" Some are letters written to Harmon or Benjamin Hiner from John McCoy Jr. and other things which I do not possess. The Hiner's lived, I believe in Indiana at the time of these writings. (about mid 1800's) Some of the McCoy's were from Va, and WV areas. If anyone is in possession of any of this info I would like to hear from you. I have some which I would be willing to share. Thanks, email me at tkwigal@charter.net Karen

Dear Karen,

I wasn't aware of the HINER PAPERS. I descend from Jacob HINER who married Sarah McCoy as his first wife. They lived in what is now Pendleton Co., W.V. Their son, Jacob, Jr. mar. Rachel TODD, dau. of James TODD, Highland Co., or Augusta Co., VA. and migrated to Decatur Co., IA. I have quite a lot of information on the HINERS. Hope to hear from you.

Sorry I haven't responded, but I haven't checked the boards lately and I usually get a note in my email when I get a response. Sarah McCoy is the sister of my ggg grandfather Joseph McCoy. I found out about the Hiner Papers while researching info in the Web Site for the Library of Virginia. I found a letter on there from my gggg grandfather, Sarah's father. It was written to Thomas Jefferson when he was serving as Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia. It was in his own hand. On that site it mentions the Hiner Papers, but apparently they aren't accessable via the net. I'd be interested in seeing what is in them. I think I read somewhere that there is 17 pages. (not sure on that.) I also found some letters that were written by John McCoy Jr., Sarah's brother when he was in the war of 1812, and he wrote these letters to his family, wife, parents, brother, etc. You may email me at tkwigal@charter.net Karen

I am Jeffrey Kuhn, author of History of the Hiner Family, descedants of John and Rachel Hoover Hiner who left Doe Hill, Va for Miami County, Indiana 1836. I completed a history of their descendants in 1981. I recall "the Hiner Papers" belonging to the Harmon Hiner family of Highland/Pendleton Co., Va, am not aware of any Indiana connection but if you locate them and establish a connection to the Indiana Hiners, please let me know.

I am descended from John and Rachel Hoover Hiner, settled in Miami Co., IN in 1836 from Doe Hill, Va. I compiled a history of their descendants in 1981. Their son, Harmon Hiner (wife was Margaret Young) left Miami Co., IN in 1850's (I think, am going by memory) and settled near Oskaloosa, IA. Their daughter had a child out of wedlock and they left Miami Co. for Ioaw. They had several children, some married into the Taggart family. Anyway, would like for there to be a colaborated effort to complete a history of all descendants of John and Magdalena Burner Hiner. Jeffrey Kuhn

That post was made quite sometime back. I made an error in that I said that the Hiner's were from Indiana. I meant the McCoy's (some of them) were in Indiana (Knox Co.) and the Hiners were in Pendleton, Highland Co. area.

Is this Hiner family in any way connected to Hinersville Kansas and the group there that has held Hine reunions in the past?

I am descended from John Hiner, Jr. who married Rachel Hoover and left Doe Hill, Va in 1836 for Peru, Miami Co., IN. I compiled a History of the Hiner Famiy, Descendants of John and Rachel Hoover Hiner, in 1981.
