My relative has the Victoria medal inscribed:

26387
TPR J.Grant
1st Scottish Horse

Clasps are:
Transvaal
Orange Free State
Cape Colony

Would this be the Boer War? and what is the significance of the clasps?

Thank you for any assistance.

Loretta

The medal mentioned in my previous inquiry should say Queens Medal South Africa... sorry, was looking at the medal and called a Victoria medal in error.

My Grandfather was also in the 1st Scottish Horse Regiment in the Boer War. There is a lot of information if you google 1st scottish horse and you can also see members who served in that regiment by going to WWW.britishmedals.us/files/127scothorse.html

Dont Know but there are a few Scottish horse Sites that may yield service records. From my reading of the Scottish horse regiments Australians joining paid their own way to Jo'burg to join. The Scottish Horse Regiment was a private regiment and has quite a history. An off shoot of the Scottish horse was the 5th Battalion a Australian Scottish battalion that was formed in WW1 and again in WW2. As a national serviceman I was drafted into 5th Battalion in Vietnam. So my battalion that i joined as links back to 1901 to my Grandfather's Regiment some 70 years later. There is quite a bit of info if you google 1st Scottish Horse.
