My Great Grandfather was Giuseppe Failla. He and two brothers left Sicily and came to the US in the early 1900's. One brother was Francesco and I'm not sure of the other brothers name. Frank was married to Carmella. My Great Grandfather, Giuseppe was married to Crocifisa Taormina. They brought 2 sons with them when they came, Giovanni (my grandfather) and Dominick my (Uncle Bob). They had 5 more sons after they moved to the US. My Great Grandfather's father was Giovanni Failla married to Maruza Giallombardo. Let me know if you have any information on any of theses names. Thanks, Jacqueline

Hi Jacqueline,
it would be vey important to know the exact place where they lived in Sicily. Failla is a common surname both of Palermo and of Siracusa (have a click on the italian http://gens.labo.net to see the distribution of italian surnames). Anyway we'll check among our sicilian relatives and keep you posted.
We don't live in Sicily, but in the North of Italy. After 20 years we found out that close Failla relatives were living in the same town!

Giorgia and Francesco, Thanks for the note. I believe my relatives were from Lascari in Palermo. I lived in southern Italy for about 1 1/2 years and did speak fluent Italian, but it has been 25 years since I returned to the states, but my Italian is very rusty. However, you are welcome to answer me in Italian if you wish. My E-mail address is coopauto@flash.net. Feel free to E-mail me with any info that you may have. Thanks, Jacqueline

My mother,s first cousin was Giuseppi Failla he was born in Sortino and came to the United States probably in the l920,s. His mother was probably a Rossito. He married his cousin Vincenza (last name unknown to me) He had two brothers Luigi and ? also a sister Lucia, who also came to the U.S. Guiseppi and Luigi settled in the Bronx New York and the other brother and Lucia settled in Hartford, Connecticut and Middletown, Connecticut. Can there be any connection here?

I asked to our Sortino relatives but it seems that there is no connection.
The names we are looking for are Francesco, Gaspare, Gabriele, Paolo and Rosario - recurrent names in our family.
Francesco went to the US in the 20's, after the death of his beloved wife. It may be very probable that "your Faillas" and our, coming form the same small place, could have visited each other when arrived in the U.S. This could be very interesting to know.

Sorry to say I have no information for you on your relatives. What state did they settle in the United States? Perhaps that will help someone make a connection. Good luck!

My Great Grandfather Joseph (Giuseppe) Failla was from Siracusa or so I've been told. He was born there around 1886 in Sept. My grandmother says she was told however he was a only child which I find hard to beleive for the time period. We have been told he was from a wealthly area and that he left his land to a cousin when he came to America. He married in the U.S. to a Teresa Gelsomino from Naples Italy. Her father traveled to and from Italy because his wife never came here. Her and two sisters came with him after her marriage in the early 1900's he returned home and had 2 more daughters whom remained in italy. My great Grandparents had five daughters. We have no idea of when or who he exactly came to America with.If you can help me with this family history I would be greatful. Please e-mail at jharold@cavtel.com
