My great, great, great grandfather, John Gilbreath, had a brother named Joseph. Joseph was born 3/4/1821 in Ohio, married Mary Catherine Prickett, 9/21/1843, and Mary Catherine Raypholtz, 8/23/1860. I have no information about Joseph's children, place of death, etc.

If your Joseph is my great, great, great grandfather's sibling, their father was Benjamin Gilbreath, born 9/6/1787 in Virginia.
Benjamin was an ensign during the war of 1812, and consistently spelled the family name "Gilbreath" during his service and from that point on. His father was Benjamin Galbreath, born 1763, died sometime after 1817, probably in Kentucky.

There are a LOT of Methodist preachers in my family tree -- I would not be surprised to find a John Wesley or two.

Sounds like we are from the same family. Haven.t found any yet who come directly through John Wesley. Most information I have found lists Hugh and John Wesley's father's name as just Joseph. Not sure why John Wesley has the name Jr. I also have recieved information with Samuel listed as the youngest son but don't have any information about him. Some list Joseph's wife Martha as maybe having the last name of Grant. Any new information you have would be helpful. Thanks.

Hello , fellow Gilbreath cousins...
Ok , I am kin to Samuel Galbraith, born at John's death.
There are some researchers that say he is actually the son of Hugh Galbraith b. abt 1740 Ireland , who ended up in NC which became Tn.
In my searching I have found that Samuel was not claimed by the HUGH from Ireland family. So I have him in Limbo.
There are so many things that add up about him being the son of John and Martha, That it all makes me want to scream.
So many people on here have added him to this family and one researcher that a family member says that Samuel was born after John's death and John not knowing about him, so not in the will .
I was wondering how you are all looking at the info and what ideas you have ? I have these ties to the family....Walker family! That all end up in the same Indian Territory in Arkansas! Arbuncle Island Cemetary! Names that seem to carry in both families, like Wesley,Clinton and Masey! Kyle family! Harmon family! Morgan family!
The story that is passed down in my family is that there was a big rift due to a step parent that causes the brothers to split up.
Any ideas would help to bring back my sanity lol.
Thanks Carla Txladybug33@aol.com
