Hi Debbie,

I am your cousin. My great, great grandfather was E.H.C. Kenner. EHC was a circuit rider for the Missionary Baptist Church and is buried at the church outside of Poplar Bluff, Mo. He had a son named George who was also a circuit rider. George I believe lived in Ripley County outside of Doniphan. George had a son named Perry who was barber and also owned rental property. Perry lived in Poplar Bluff. Perry son was Jerome who is my dad. Let me know if you need anything else.

David,
Are you a descendant of Winder Kenner? I saw a posting somewhere that said he was buried in Springfield, MO, with his daughter and her family, but I forget their name. I would like to get a picture of his grave if anyone out there knows where it is.

Winder Kenner b. cir 1769 Edgecombe Co, NC; m. Mary Elizabeth Davis cir 1793 Hawkins Co, TN; d. 23 Dec 1856 rural Greene Co, MO and buried in McCraw Cemetery, Greene Co, MO. Winder was the son of Francis Kenner and Elizabeth Howard and the grandson of Howson Kenner and Margaret Eskridge. Only 2 of Winder's children are known to move to Greene Co, MO: Elizabeth Howard Kenner who married John Latham McCraw and John Latham Kenner who married Jane Steerman. Winder died in the home of Elizabeth and John McCraw, my 4th great grandparents.

I have several photos of Winder's headstone, which was recently found after 40-50 years of being missing after vandals hit the cemetery and removed it. We had a rededication ceremony in October. If anyone wants a copy of the photo please let me know and I will send it by email. You can contact me at Audraem@sol.com

Thank you. After I posted the inquiry, I googled "grave of Winder Kenner" and found the article about the return of the headstone and printed out the photo. I am a descendant of Winder's son James, or so I have been told. James is listed in Tennesee with a wife (Martha ?) and children in 1830 and in Louisiana in 1840 in Natchitoches Parish. He helped lay out the town of Many, LA, around 1845 and is in San Augustine, TX, in 1850 and 1860. His son Winder married Martha Thompson and had my great-grandfather Richard Hampton Kenner. I wish that I could find James' wife's maiden name and the reason that James migrated from TN to LA. If you have any information that I don't, please share.

I wish I had answers to your questions about James Kenner, son of Winder Kenner. I have not found Martha's maiden name either nor do I know for sure what led him to move to Louisiana then Texas. James' sister, Elizabeth Howard Kenner McCraw and her husband left Hawkins Co, TN around the same time and moved to Greene Co, MO most likely because new land was opening up and land was becoming less available in Hawkins County.

I do have names and approximate or actual birthdates of all 13 of James and Martha's children and spouse information on 9 of them. I wonder if your Martha Thompson is related to Jane Thompson who married James' brother Francis "Frank" Kenner.

James had to have moved to Louisiana sometime in 1830 as he is listed on the 1830 Hawkins Co, TN census and yet son James was born in LA 10 Aug 1830. Their last child born in LA was Marie Minerva in 1847 so sometime between 1847 and the birth of Nancy in 1850 in San Augustine Co, TX is when they made that move.

You can contact me at audraem@aol.com if you want to compare notes.
