Craig,

My line is from Annandale, Lot 56 (Township) PEI, Canada. Sarah Jane was born abt 187_.
Her parents were William "The Sailor" Swallow and Abigail (Jenkins) Swallow.
I make Sarah Jane to be my Grandfather's (James Harvey Swallow) second cousin. So my second cousin
twice removed. William was born in Annandale as was his father(Wm). I'm looking for the first Wm. Where he came from etc.
I am extremely interested to know about this Pontefract, England...
Hope all this helps.

Debbie,
I just found this web page again.
Let me explain my Swallow situation. I have recently received info from two completely different sources. One suggests that Wm Swallow was from Pontefract the other was that his name was Robert from Yorkshire born about 1790. Both sources (as well as our own family) known that he was rescued (along with two others) off the coast of PEI, Canada in early 180_ after an altercation onboard a British ship. Locals hid the men from search parties and they all married in the community. I must now believe that he was from some where in Yorkshire.
I guess what I'm looking for is a William or Robert Swallow b. 1790s in Pontefract, Yorkshire or somewhere in Yorkshire.
I did find evidents of a Rbt. Swallowe of Gawthorpe 1614 and a Christopher Swallow of Micklegate. Any help would be appreciated.
To answer your questions. No I've no knowledge of a Hannah, however Joseph is a common name in later generations and branches of my family.

Surnames: Swallow Chaffey
Dear Debbie.
I am also a descendent of the Swallow family of Prince Edward Island, Canada.

I have information on the genealogy of the Swallows that disagrees radically.

One Fulton "Tiny" Underhay has put his Swallow research on a PEI websit which is an excellent source of all things related to PEI. > www.islandregister.com <

"Tiny's' work starts with a William Swallow being the first to arrive in PEI. He has Robert as Williams son.

Katherine Dingwell starts her information about the Swallow family insisting that Robert Swallow was the first to arrive in PEI in abt 1812. She writes that Robert did indeed jump the British merchant ship he was on and swam ashore arriving on a beach of lot 56, Kings County, PEI. (probably near Annandale) Robert was hidden by searchers from the ship by settlers until the searching stopped, Robert eventually leased 100 acres on Lot 56, near Grand River Wharf which later became Annandale.
Robert Swallow is my gr. great grandfather. His daughter Marie married my gr. grandfather George Chaffey. George and Marie Chaffey had six children all born on 75 acres, Lot 56 etc.
Robert and his daughter, Marie (Swallow) Chaffey died on the same day in 1865. I cannot learn how they each died. If it was connected or coincidental. Marie was only 35 years old with their youngest child not yet 4.

I did have Katherine Dingwell's E-mail address, but the last couple of times I tried to send her a message it came back.

I tend to believe Katherine's version of the first generation in PEI being Robert Swallow b. abt. 1790 in Yorkshire, England.
Do you have any such animal in your "Tree"?
I have been searching on LDS web site and found one possible in Selby and one possible in Sheffeld.
I hadn't heard of the locality you mentioned.
Thanks for any information you may give me.

Hi (forgot your name "senior moment")
I just responded with information on the Swallows from PEI. I am related to Swallows via my great grandmother Marie Swallow Chaffey. See my E-mail for brief info.

I am related via my grand uncle Joseph Chaffey II to half the early settlers in PEI especially many that were on Lot 56.
I believe that there is presently a female Jenkins living (or just boarded it up for the winter) in a house which is owned by her and belonged to a Jenkins who owned it in 1948. The house was built by my gr. grandfather, George Chaffey, sometime in the early to mid 1850's as his children started arriving.
I am related Jenkins who married various relatives via Swallows and their marriages and Joseph Chaffey II daughters and their marriages. I have an Abigail in there somewhere, but couldn't find her just now. I'll put the information up on the board when I locate it.
