hiya thanx for e mail unfortunately i have no idea of dates etc as my mother died years ago so there is no info on my gran all i know is that she married alex williams a miner from fife she also had a relationship with a man called sam and she had something to do with a hotel in peebles and she had a sister called bett

It sounds like you may be back far enough to use the Scotlands People site at: http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

Certificate records they cover are:

Births 1855-1904
Marriages 1855-1929
Deaths 1855-1954

Start with your mothers death certificate, if you dont have it you and it is after 1954 then you can buy a copy from the Registry Office it is registered at, hire a researcher to look it up or call NRH in Edinburgh.

Then look for your Mums marriage certificate and look for her birth certificate as well, this will tell you when/where her parents married so you can search for that as well.
