It sounds like you may be back far enough to use the Scotlands People site at:
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/Certificate records they cover are:
Births 1855-1904
Marriages 1855-1929
Deaths 1855-1954
Start with your mothers death certificate, if you dont have it you and it is after 1954 then you can buy a copy from the Registry Office it is registered at, hire a researcher to look it up or call NRH in
Edinburgh.
Then look for your Mums marriage certificate and look for her birth certificate as well, this will tell you when/where her parents married so you can search for that as well.
