From my research thus far LINDO originated in Portugal. I have found information to suggest that they were Sephardic Jews. I am having difficulty in tracing my Lindo line though any info you have please share.

I am reposting this. Original inquiry was sometime last year.
I am looking for info about LINDO family name. My grandmother Inez Lindo was from Preston near Port Maria. Her father was Wilfred or (Walford) Lindo
and did own a plantation and was a cattle farmer. He had a brother Sutliff who was a butcher and a land baron. My grand mother was born circa 1904 died 1929, and her mother was an unknown GRANT.
I am also researching the following names: ROSE, -- Trelawney ~1887; ROSE,
Andrew, Trelawney ~1860's; COMRIE, -- ~1885, St. Ann; COMRIE, John ~1846,
St. Ann; THOMAS, Rebecca ~1860's, St. Mary; FRANCIS, Elizabeth ~1851 St. Ann;
WILLIAMS ~1860's and before, St. Ann and then St. Mary after the late late
1800's; FORSYTHE ~1850's, St. Catherine and then St. Ann, and then St.
Mary after the late 1800's; and, GRANT ~ 1880's possibly St. Mary, Port Maria.
Any info would be appreciated, and if pertinent I can share what I have.
Thanks

Lindo, Sephardim in the W.I.

There is a very good book on the Sephardic families in the Caribbean generally. It is called "The Jews of the Netherlands Antilles" but covers the whole Caribbean Basin. It's shortcoming is that members who converted and their descendants aren't included.

I know

My maiden name was Lindo. My family is from Bermuda. I live in the U.S. on the east coast. I've always heard that the name is Portugese. Also, I know that there are quite a few Lindos in New York City.
