Hi Philip, I believe the picture you show on your website as Daniel Delozier Sr. (abt 1750-1818) is actually Daniel Delozier the Surveyor of the Port of Baltimore (appointed by George Washington) born about 1760 and died on Nov 6, 1813, western prect, Md. He is buried in the St. Paul Church Cemetery, Baltimore. This Daniel was the son of Thomas Delozier and Susannah Randall. He married Anna Higginbotham on Nov 3, 1791 in Annapolis. His wife is also buried in St. Paul Church Cemetery.

At the time the painting was painted Daniel Delozier Sr., who married Ann Elder, was living in Frederick County, Md. and Daniel who married Anna Higginbotham was living around the Annapolis/Baltimore area.

For all I know you are right, but the dates given on the picture at http://www.hammondharwoodhouse.org/Paintings%20Collection.ht... is 1750 to 1815, which does not correspond to either of our dates, but was closer to mine (1750 to 1818). He actually made his will in 1715. My Daniel came from southern Maryland/

Can you clear up the discrepancy in dates? If I have the wrong Daniel pictured, I will gladly remove the picture, but I would like to solve the date discrepancy first. Thanks,

Phil Hodgkins

Philip,
I found the picture in PORTRAITS AND MINATURES BY WILLSON PEALE by Charles Coleman Sellers, 1952.

The description states:

[Note - notice the dates are the same as you have, but this Daniel actually died in 1813. The Baltimore Federal Gazette of Nov 8, 1813 says "Daniel Delozier, late surveyor of the Port of Baltimore, died last Saturday at his residence in the Western Precinct in his 53rd year" and his will was filed on Nov 13, 1813 he left his estate estate to Mary Davidson, niece of his wife Anne Higginbotham; to Eliza Randal and Fanny Hagner, daughters of John Randall of Annaolis, his late partner; his half-sister Susannah Blundell and Daniel Delosier Davidson the son of Mary named above]

"DELOZIER, DANIEL
Daniel Delozier (1750-1815) son of Thomas and Susanna Randall Delozier, settled at Annapolis in 1773 and later moved to Baltimore, where he was appointed Collector of the Port by Washington. John Randall the former incumbent, had recommended him for the office. [Note: he was also the Suryeyor of the Port of Baltimore.]
His portrait is signed, although only the "C.W." and the date are at all legible. The date, which was been understood to be 1783 is made more probably 1788, when Peale and Delozier were together at Baltimore. The picture was once in bad condition and was carefully restored by Frank B. Mayer (1827-1899), a Baltimore artist. The hair, most of the waistcoat and a large part of the background have been overpainted.
1788 Canvas, 36x27 Half length.
Yellow hair. Blue eyes. Very dark coat. Buff waistcoat with brass buttons. Black chair. Backgrownd very dark olive green
Painting owned by Richard H. Randall, Balt. desc."

The two Daniels did live at the same time and does cause confusion. Matter of fact the whole old Delozier family is confusing! Daniel Sr. who wrote his will in 1815 and died on Dec 26, 1818 also had a wife named Ann but she was Ann Elder. I have a copy of his will and all the administration papers. This Danies is my husband's ancestor through Daniel's son Ignatious, Ignatious's son Daniel (who married Catherine Sell), Daniel's son Abraham (who married Mary Roudabush) Abraham's son Jesse H. (who married Martha Dickey) to Paul Wilmer Delozier, my husband Jesse's father.

I would love to share anything I have with you, just let me know.
Sincerley, Carole

Thanks. Sorry about the confusion. I found the picture on a Google search and everything seemed to fit.

The painting has been removed. To see the new graphic go to http://philsplace.topcities.com/Delozier/delozier.htm
I would be very interested in any Delozier information you might have prior to Daniel Delozier, b 1685, France.
