Edward Grant 1632-1682 Family

Surnames: Grant, Allen, Allin
I am interested in finding living descendants of Edward Grant 1632-1682, his son Joseph 1660-, Joseph's sons Joseph, Jr. 1691-1756 and John (2nd) 1696-1752 and Joseph, Jr.'s sons John 1717/18-1752, Edward 1719-1797 and William 1728-.
My purpose is to find out if my 5th great grandfather Joseph, III of Barrington, RI is actually the son of Joseph, Jr. mentioned above by using DNA.
I have good genealogical proof from Joseph, III to myself, but do not have actual proof that Joseph, III is the son of Joseph, Jr.
The supposition is that Joseph, III was sent to live with relatives of his mother Dorothy Allen in Barrington, RI to apprentice as a farmer. There were many Allen's and Allin's in Barrington, RI.

Hello. I cannot help you directly with your search, although we share a common ancestor in Joseph Grant III, b. 1716. My descent from him is:
1. Joseph Grant IV, b. 1742 d. 1815, m. Hannah Drowne
.2. Joshua Grant, b. ???? d. 1822, m. Mary Martin
..3. Cyril Read Grant, b. 1807 d. 1846, m. Abby Fales Mason
....4. Henry Martin Grant, b. 1842 d. 1922, m. Nancy Arda Rorison
.....5. Sarah Mabel Grant, b. 1875 d. 1919, m. Richard Fenner Monges
......6. Adele Grant Monges, b. 1909 d. 1973, m. John Walter Davison (my parents)

My documentation past Cyril Read Grant is not strong, and of course, my Y-DNA is in the Davison line, not Grant (I just submitted a sample to Family Tree DNA for analysis). However, I have male Grant cousins whom I hope to ask to submit a Y-DNA sample, and if one of them does, we should be able to confirm our family connection at Joseph Grant III. I would be interested in any genealogical documentation you may have on Joseph Grant III and his descendants, and anything you may find about the line back to Edward Grant.

Are you a member of the FTDNA Grant family project? I just checked, and two kits submitted there claim Edward Grant 1632-1682 as their paternal ancestor. Perhaps one has the lineage we both seek.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Henry Davison

My father in law has the Grant family bible. He is a descendant of Edward b.1632. Yes, Joseph had a son William. My husband and his father are descended from William's brother Benjamin, Bristol , RI. You can find documents in Bristol of how Joseph and his sons fought in the Revolutionary War. My daughter is currently seeking DAR status so we are getting her Dan tested. Deloris Grant

When you say Joseph Grant has a son William, you are talking about Joseph Grant IV, husband of Hannah Drowne? What Grant Bible? Joseph, III or Joseph, IV? My Uncle Red Grant has many photostatic copies of Grant Bible(s). He has since deceased and I have what he had. I have been trying to find a tie between Joseph, II and Joseph, III. I found a person north of Boston who says he comes from Edward and Joseph I line. He said he could get someone to do DNA but that has yet to occur. Once I have that resolved, I will then try to trace Edward back to England or Scotland. There are theories, but nothing proven as yet. All of Joseph, III sons were in the Revolutionary war, so your daughter should not have a problem. Red's two children were members of the CAR.

I would be interested in what you have on Joseph IV's line. I am certainly willing to send you what I have on Joseph, II and his six sons, well five sons. There has not been much found for son Thomas.

Deloris,
I am a little confused. The Abel, whose picture, along with his wife Hannah Luther, you were knid enough to post, is the son of Benjamin Grant and Esther Brown. Benjamin was the son of Joseph Grant, III and Rosamond Garnsey. Is this your husband's line or is he from the Benjamin who is the son of Joseph Grant, IV and Hannah Drowne?
Abel, son of Abel and Sarah Saunders (son of Joseph Grant, III and Rosamond Garnsey) took his family to Allegheny Township, Butler, PA.

Could you give me the names of the husbands and wives between Benjamin and your husband, including Benjamin's wife? I hope this is not too confusing.

Dave, I am also a little confused. This seems to be where I mess up. I need to talk to my father in law because I am almost certain he said that one of his grandfathers lived in PA for a while. I believe in hat Benjamin who was married to Esther is the father of Abel who was married to Sarah. They had Job who is my husband's great grandfather. Any help would be appreciated.
