Searching for information on John Corneail (b.1842 d.1917). He was married to Catherine (b.1839 d.1916) with children: Mary Ann (b.1864), Thomas (b.1865), Agnes (b.1867), Eva E. (b.1869 d.1941), John S. (b.1871), George (b.1874), Daniel (b.1875). The 1880 census has them living in nearby St. Clair County but spent all of their later years in Lapeer County near Imlay City. I would be interested in hearing from anyone with information on this family.

There is a road in Imlay Twp of that name. It runs north and south just about a mile east of M-53. It is about 2 miles long. I don't have any info on the family though. I can take a photo of the street sign later this week when I am in the area if you want me to.

John Corneail does NOT appear in the Michigan 1870 or 1880 census.
Do you have the name spelled correctly?

Yes, a family stone (as well as individual members) in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Imlay City has it spelled "Corneail". In 1870 the family is living in Ray, Macomb County, MI identified as "Cornielle". In 1880, they are living in Riley, St. Clair County, MI identified as "Corniel". In 1900, they are in Almont, Lapeer County under "Corneil". Finally, in 1910 they are still in Almont under the name "Corneal". John Corneail died in 1917. The unusual spelling of the name probably led to confusion on the part of the census-takers way back when. I'd appreciate any information on this family.

In 1870 there is a John Corneil (56) - Canada)in Sanilac county. I think he is the father.

In 1880 there is a Gideon Corneil in Lexington, Sanilac, Michigan.
I think he is an older brother.

By 1880 Mary A. (see 1870 census) has either died or gets married.

Thank you for your reply. My records state that John Corneail was born in Canada on 7 Mar 1842. He was baptized on 4 Nov 1842 at St. Mary's Cathedral, Kingston, Ontario. He moved to the Michigan in 1868. He lived his later years around Imlay City until his death in 1917. He is buried in Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Imlay City.

Although the name Julius Corneil is unfamiliar to me, I know very little of John Corneail's immediate family. Do you have any additional information on Julius Corneil that would help identify him?

I have extensive information on Gideon Gifford Corneil; but no information on John Corneil, his younger brother who was born 1856 in Ekfrid, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada. Also I am interested in information on their brother, Nicholas Corneil who purportedly went to Nassau, West Indies. I am currently searching for descendants of their oldest brother, James Corneil born 28 April 1839 in Ekfrid, Middlesex, Ontario and died 15 Dec 1910 in St Charles, Kane, Illinois. Wife's name was Sarah Spitler.
