In a history of Fort Phoenix in Fairhaven, MA the name of Ebenezer Hathaway is listd, along with Capt. Benjamin Dillingham, as builders of the original fort between 1775 and 177. My 4th great aunt (daughter of Weston Winslow 1751) Lydia Winslow (dob 1781) married a Capt. Ebenezer Hathaway 11 November 1804 - which is lited in the Dartmouth Vital Records. He is listed as "Cpt. Ebenezer Hathaway of New Bedford" in the book and I would like to know if he was a ships "Captain" or a military rank. Also if he is same who married Lydia.
