Adolf/Adolph Selz

Surnames: Selz, Schas, Rubin

I'm looking for further information on Adolf Selz, born 13 May 1888 in Germany, died 27 Jan 1956 in Asheville, North Carolina. He was married to Jeanette Schas and had one child, Evelyn, who married Benjamin Rubin.

Evelyn and Benjamin had two sons, Alan and Kenneth.

I'd like to find out if this Adolf is the nephew of my gg-uncle's grandfather, Ernest Selz.

Ernest's nephew Adolf Selz arrived in New York from Affaltrach, Germany, on 6 Oct 1902, aged 17. He was headed to Flemingsburg, KY, to his uncle Ernest Selz.

Adolf filed a patent for an improved trolley wheel on 14 Nov 1902 and it was Patented 3 Mar 1903, #722,189. He was still a German citizen at the time of filing.

I have been unable to find him after the patent filing.

Adolph in Asheville is the closest possibility I've found, but his census records suggest he might have been an US citizen by 1899.

Interesting. Adolph Walter Selz, jewish, buried at Beth Ha-Tephila Cemetery. His daughter Evelyn was living with an Aunt and Uncle in 1930. Isadore Goldstein from Russia and his wife Ida from NC.
Adolph Selz 1930 census listed as born in Germany, married and as a ROOMER with the Jenkins family. Adolph Selz 1920 living with wife and daughter. Wife Jeanette born in Russia. Adolph born in Germany.
1910 census Adolph born in Illinois, wife Jeanette born in Germany. I suspect Adolph simply lied on the census for convenience. Good luck

Thank you very much, Barbara! I didn't have the cemetery information, and I appreciate you finding it for me.

I just emailed the congregation to see if they might have any information on where in Germany Adolph W. came from.

I rather wonder if in 1910 a neighbor answered the census taker for the Selzes. There was a big extended family of Selzes in Chicago, Illinois, and there WAS an Adolph or two among them. They owned the Selz Shoe Company and were quite well known.

I don't know if they're any relation to my Selzes, though. I've not found any link so far.

Thank you again!

Fortunately his DC is online; his parents' names weren't known. :(

But I do thank you for taking the time to suggest that, Barbara! :)

My name is Kenneth Rubin and I am the grand son of Adolph Selz. I am not aware of his background prior to his living in Asheville, NC.
