Finding distant family on the Menominee Reservation

My father, Ronald L. Menominee was born on the reservation along with a twin brother, Rudy Menominee. They were born in Neopit in November of 1933, and attended the Government school in Keshena before moving to Milwaukee with my grandfather, Joseph Menominee and my grandmother, Dolly, who was white. My grandfather had four or five brothers and sisters, but all of them moved from the reservation.

If anyone has any information on my family's tree or distant relatives, I would like to talk.

Thanks.

Do you have the census information? I found Joseph, Josephine, Edward, Earl and Joseph Jr. in 1920
And M. Joseph and Edward and families. And I found a few in the SSDI

In the 1930 census Joseph is now a widow, with children Earl, Joseph Jr. and Theresa. Josephine must have been his 1st wife, and Dolly must have been a 2nd wife. I would think that there is a marriage record for Joseph and Dolly in Shawano County circa 1930-1933.

Greg,

I am not related. Just trying to help out.

Joseph's parents were Edward Menominee and Theresa.

1900 US Census Menominee Indian Reservation, Shawano County, Wisconsin, Enumeration District 198, Sheet 28 A, Enumerated June 13, Dwelling 183, Family 184, Lines 9-13

Indexed as Memmer. Actual spelling looks like Menommiss?

I am sure this is the right family because in the SPECIAL INQUIRIES RELATING TO INDIANS column in the bottom section, it looks more like the spelling Menominee.

Edward Menominee, Head, Indian (Native American), age 38, married 15 years, born November 1861 Wisconsin, parents born Wisconsin

Theresa Menominee, wife, Indian (Native American), age 37, married 15 years, 7 children, 3 living, born May 1863 Wisconsin, parents born Wisconsin

Joseph Menominee, son, Indian (Native American), age 11, born March 1889 Wisconsin, parents born Wisconsin

Lizza (Lizzie?) Menominee, daughter, Indian (Native American), age 7, born April 1893 Wisconsin, parents born Wisconsin

Frank Menominee, son, Indian (Native American), age 2, born July 1897 Wisconsin, parents born Wisconsin

***In the SPECIAL INQUIRIES RELATING TO INDIANS columns,
all members of this family listed Menominee as their nativity, as well as their parents. All were listed as having 0 white blood.

I found this in the Wisconsin pre 1907 marriage index. There was a Theresa Menominee who married Nov. 19, 1904 in Shawano County. But because there were 4 people who married on that same date, I don't know if she married Joseph Davis, or Herman Schumacher. Maybe this is the Theresa who was married to Edward. Maybe Edward died and she used her married name in this 2nd marriage?

Davis, Joseph Marriage Nov 19 1904 Shawano
Lange, Emilie Marriage Nov 19 1904 Shawano
Menominee, Theresa Marriage Nov 19 1904 Shawano
Schumacher, Herman Marriage Nov 19 1904 Shawano

I also found this family, but I don't know if there is any connection.

Greg,

Your grandmother Dolly's maiden name is Wheeler. The Wheeler family is from northern Minnesota, in the Remer/Longville area. I know that's your Dolly as I know Dolly married a John Menominee and lived on a reservation at some point. Dolly was my grandfather Lewis' sister. They had a large family, see attached pic... I think she's one of the ladies in the front... I'll have to ask my aunt as she knows all about this side of the family. Your dad is one of the babies that the ladies are holding, as the babies are Ronny and Rudy. I never met my grandpa Lewis as he died from CJD in the 60s.. Our family has familial CJD mutation, which took my father, some of his cousins as well as my grandfather. The Wheelers are of German, Polish (Prussian) and English descent in addition to a few other things. Let me know if you want more info.
