BRIDGES FAMILY-TEXAS

I am a college student trying to do a community service project for my history class. I live in the same city as the abandoned Bridges Family Cemetery ( The Colony, Texas in Denton county.) I am trying to put together a group of volunteers to clean the cemetery of trash and excessive brush, and create an archive of the family history so others may enjoy a rich piece of our Texas heritage. I would greatly appreciate any information/emailed photos of the family. The following is the current infomration I have: Bridges settlement was named for W.A. Bridges family and is reported to be the oldest in Denton County. The settlement was started in 1843 and was reported to be the center of activity of the Peters Colony. The cemetery is on land granted to Bridges in 1850 and dates back to 1855. Numerous burials of Bridges family members, other immigrants, children and civil war soldiers can be found here. The cemetery was deeded back to the county in 1889 by F.M. and Sallie Bridges. The cemtery contains over 100 sandstone/granite markers. I would appreciate any information.

Thanks you in advance, Valerie

I seek info on Lotha Bridges and her parents Francis M. and Georgia Bridges -- all were born in GA, with Lotha born in Parrott, Terrell Co. GA. Lotha had four older brothers: Joseph, Eddie, Homer and Jeter.

This Lotha Bridges was my great-grandmother, married to James Hamilton Leverett. They had two sons: Raymond and James Culpepper Leverette (my grandfather), both born in GA.

Lotha reportedly died in a small town in Alabama, but I do not know where she or the rest of the Bridges of this line are buried. Please let me know if any of these names are familiar to you.

According to a genealogy history book of the Gunnel family, Wiseman Bridges is the father of Mary. I am looking for the ancestry of the James Byrd Gunnel. mikeledo@aol.com

So you're looking for the ones before James Byrd Gunnells? Just wanted to be sure.I am too, for he is my 7th generation grandfather. And Mary Bridges is my 7th gen. grandmother. I'm trying to locate both James' and Mary's folks. If I find anything else I will contact you. What is James' relation to you? I'm curious. e-mail @mindybh@mindspring.com

My grandmother is Neva Maxine Bridges (maiden name). She married Richard C.
Quinn, he died, then married Randall
Wagner. Anyway, she has 4 sisters and one
brother(who died young). She is from
Utah but I know that at some point either
she alone or the whole family lived in
Texas because her Social Security card
was received in Texas. The brother that
died was Lee Bridges. I don't know how
old he was except that he was young.
Her father's name is Frank Bridges. Do
these names appear at all on the grave
markers? I would appreciate your help!
Thanks!! Cindy email me heltonl@ellijay.com

I have Bridges family in Fannin County, Tx
they may be descended from this group. My
great grandparents (Bridges) were married
at a place called Clutter Point Texas. I am
uncertain as to whether this was in the flooded (Man-made)Lake of Texoma, or whether it is now Pilot Point in Denton County Tx.
Our ancestry comes from Solomon Bridges. he migrated from North Carolina to Georgia. His desecendants migrated to Alabama, Mississipi and Arkansas and to Texas. This migration
follows that of the Cherokee Old Settlers
who settled in the Mexico Territory of Texas.
I would be glad to learn more about this Bridges Cemeterey or share my family tree
research. greengo@rocketmail.com
