Dear Folks,
I'm looking for a Jemima Maloney who married Richard Hewitt and lived in Tioga County, New York. They had 3 sons and 3 daughters, one of whom was named Catherine Mary "Kate" Hewitt. Her mother's name might also be Germina Green.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely yours,
Elaine

Dear Elaine:

What time peroid are you talking about. There is a Jemima Maloney in my mother's family in the early 1800s. I'm sure she's not the same person but, Jemima is not that common so they may be related. Her parents were John Maloney & Susan Crawford, both born about 1771 in NC or VA.

Dear Fred,
My Jemima is the wife of Richard Hewitt, Revolutionary War figure. They are from Tioga County, NY. There are 3 sons and 3 daughters. I only know about Catherine Mary "Kate" Hewitt. She was born 4/1836.
Does this ring a bell? I could use all the help I can get on this family.
Thanks a million!
Sincerely yours,

Elaine, here is what I have for my first two generations of Maloney's. I can not see that we have a connection at this time. If I find one I'll let you know and I hope that you will do the same.

As of 1/1/2001, I have no original documentation that he ever existed. FM

Dear Fred,
I'm afraid you're right - my Jemima isn't yours. Mine married a Richard Hewitt and had 3 sons and 3 daughters - one of which is Catherine Mary "Kate" Hewitt of Tioga County, New York. She was the fiancee of Major General John Fulton Reynolds, 1st Corps, Army of the Potomac, who was born in Lancaster, PA, killed at Gettysburg, and buried in Lancaster, PA. I've lost track of Kate after she became a nun, and disappeared from New York State in 1868. I believe she died from Tuberculosis. But where is she buried? Family say-so has her anti-Catholic brother helping her to disappear - who better to cover her tracks from the Reynolds family?
I wish I could have helped you, but I have no relatives from any of your line. Sorry!
Sincerely yours,
Elaine

Dear Sharon,
My source was the article on Kate Hewitt and Major General John F. Reynolds in the Civil War Times Illustrated magazine about their doomed love affair and his untimely death. I've been trying to find Kate's grave since my friendship with Mike Riley, who's writing a new bio on the general. She became a nun after his death (Sister Hildegardis.) She wanted to disappear from the Reynolds' family reach; she taught a boys' school in NY, and died due to TB, consumption, the white plague, milk sick, etc. - whatever you call it, it was fatal. She seems to have disappeared in 1868 after August. Her parents were given as the Revolutionary War hero, Richard Hewitt, of Tioga County, NY; he apparently had two wives, or one wife, and Jemima Maloney was her given name in the article.
I hope this helps you and me!
Sincerely yours,

Hi Elaine,

What issue of Civil War Times Illustrated are you referring to? Richard Hewitt, the Revoutionary War hero, was born in 1766...this was not Kate's father. He was not married to Jemima Maloney. It is believed that Kate's father was in the NY State militia.

Sincerely,
Sharon

Hi Fred,

We're working on the same line of Maloneys. My husband is a descendant of John Maloney b. November 1771, Burke County, NC. Unfortunately, John is as far back as I've gotten so far. I'm trying to find some more info on him, if I find anything, I'll let you know. Maybe we can help each other out with this.

Lori, are you or your husband related to Lucy Hogan of Beatyville, Lee Co., KY? Lucy must be about 90 years old. She is also a descendant of John Maloney.

My line goes, John, McKinley, William, Dasy, Maloney. Dasy was my mother. I have quite a bit on documentation on my Maloney line.

Yes I would like to work with you and anyone that is working on this Maloney line. John is as far back as I have gotten also.
