Rev. Horace Hayden (Virginia Genealogies, Wilkes-Barre, PA, 1891) quoted Colonel Jesse Enlows Peyton as stating that "My grandfather, William Peyton, was the son of Robert Peyton. He was born in Glouc'r Co., Va., and died in Bourbon Co., Ky., in 1792, aged 74." In 1799, Nicholas County, Ky. was formed from part of Bourbon County, and was the residence of Colonel Jesse Enlows Peyton's father, Stephen Peyton; it is presumed that William died in that part of Bourbon County that is now in Nicholas County. Given that, I don't know that anyone has located a will or probate record for William either in Kentucky or back in North Carolina. Hayden states (p. 471) that "There is no will or deed of any William Peyton in Bourbon Co., Ky., prior to Aug. 1, 1795, when John Hunt deeded to Wm. Peyton 200 a. of land in Cambpell Co., Ky., on the waters of Forklick Creek."

Hayden's Virginia Genealogies is available on-line at google books.

This doesn't show a will or estate settlement, but it shows that William, Timothy, and Sarah Peyton had connections to early Bourbon Co. See the

Check the B section under Boggs for William Peyton as a witness (1786), the P section for Sarah Peyton as an exec. of Timothy Peyton (1789) & the V section for Timo. Peyton's purchase of a preemption .

Thanks for the information. I wonder how Hayden or rather J. E. Peyton knew that william died in 1792?

Jesse Enlow Peyton, who provided the info to Hayden, was William's grandson, and the son of Stephen Peyton (b. 1756).

I am a descendant of William. No will or estate settlement has been found, to my knowledge. Estate documents do exist for one of his sons, Stephen Peyton, 1756-1833, of Carlisle, Nicholas Co., KY. I believe Nicholas Co. was originally part of Bourbon Co.
