Rich,

What version of Family Tree Maker are you using? Version 2008 and newer have a Share, Export to a .CSV file. EXCEL will open that .CSV file.

FTM Version 16.0.350

Open the custom report then in File --> Export Report --> you have several options including export to a csv file.

1) Make your Custom Report the way you want it with the individuals you want.

2) Click on the Share button at the upper right of the Publish > Custom Report Screen.

3) Select CSV.

4) Select to put data into coloumns (not rows). Usually the default choice.

5) Open the file in Excel.

6) Immediately go to File > Save as and save it in excel format.

7) Review your columns. In some cases, you will want to parse text within a column to separate columns. In some case (like places) that may be rather messy and require some clean-up.

Good luck!!

Rich,

Do you really mean version 9 or FTM2009?
Version 9 is *very* old.

Rich,

For Version 9, File, Export. There should be an option. It's been a while since I used Version 9.

If it's not there, please check the Help Menu. If that doesn't work, please let is know.

I am using FTM 2008 and am trying to review my file prior to upgrading FTM. I would like to export as a CSV to use in Exel 2007 but cannot figure out how to import the data in columns rather than rows. I would also like to place the next individual in a second row rather than more columns. (I would like to have each individual in a row with all data in columns.) Please help.

rfaulk,

What are you trying to put in the .CSV file? Are you using a Custom Report?

Upgrading from 2008 to any of the newer versions will not hae any impact on your file.
