William A. Abston

William Allen Abston, aged 81 years, a confederate veteran and well known citizen, passed away Friday evening at 630 at the residence 1512-10th Ave, after an illness of several weeks. The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Sadie Abston; three daughters, Mrs. J.M. Hicks, city; Mrs. Trancey Patey, Tupelo; and Mrs. Jessie Watson, city; one son, Sam Abston, Mize; one sister Mrs. Hattie Haney*, Tuscaloosa; one brother, Sid Abston, Tuscaloosa.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the residence of the daughter, Mrs. J.M. Hicks 1319_10 Avenue. The Reverend Noble and Rev. Marks will officiate.

Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetary.

*This should be "Mattie" Haney (Martha Jane "Mattie" Abston Haynie)

Note: I found this obit in Martha Jane Abston Haynie's scrap book assembled in the early to mid 1930s from the surrounding news clippings. The obit had no header/footer, so I have no idea of its exact date.
