Hello,

I'm researching the ancestry of Jeremiah Meaghen born in St. Johns Parish,Kilkenny,Ireland abt 1834 and died in Dublin,Ireland 26 Nov 1903.

I believe his fathers name was Timothy Mehigan and I understand that Jeremiah joined the British Army and was present during the siege of Delhi in 1857. He was stationed with the 61st Regiment of foot and was quartered in Stoke Damerel, Devenport, England for a short time.

I understand that his son Christopher Meghen went on to become the Assistant Superintendent of the Irish Post Office and may have worked at the GPO during the Easter Rising of 1916.

If anybody has any information about the Meaghen/Meaghan/Meghen/Meghan/Mehigan/Meighen family living in Kilkenny in the 1830's it would be most appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Ciaran

records, spelling will probably be a problem but they give you variations on the names.

The Tithe's would be the 1830's spelling specific

I am researching Ann Meaghen married George Anderson, possibly County Tyrone, early 1800's.
