My great-grandmother was born in Kilkenny in 1854 and came to Australia (year unknown) where she married Andrew Moanson in Queensland 8th Feb. 1879. I am looking for evidence of Margaret's birth and family members and when she left for Australia. any help would be much appreciated.

Margaret's children should reflect her father's name, usually 2nd. son

You could try www.theshipslist.com for free records for passenger ships to Auz. but there aren't a lot.
There are several Auzzie websites for passenger lists. There would be no records from the Ireland end. There maybe records but not transcribed. A hint would be to look for ships from Liverpool as ships left there then stopped along the irish coast and picked up passengers so records show only the departure city of Liverpool. Ancestry has the best records for passengers. If born in 1854 she would of been 25 at marriage, well able to travel alone. She may have gone to Auz as an orphan or with her parents or for employment and to make a new life.

The current telephone book for Kilkenny shows 13 O'Keefe, 1 in Clifden and 4 in the Kilkenny area
also 60 O'Keeffe, 2 in Callan and 19 in the area of Kilkenny.

www.igp-web.com + county can sometimes have good information, and have gravestone pictures
www.from-ireland.net also have gravestone pictures
