Surnames: Mackey, Kennedy, Ledin
I have some information about my great grandmother. Would like to know about her family from Limerick.

If you might know about her or her family, please let me know.

Here is what I know:
Bridget Mackey was born on December 25, 1871 in Limerick, Ireland. Died January 11, 1949 in Chicago, Illinois.

Had seven brothers and one sister, Molly who was two years older.

Bridget immigrated to the United States about 1890 from Ireland at the age of 19, according to the 1910 US Census. However, she came under an assumed name…her sister, Molly’s.

She took a job in Iowa. Stayed long enough to share for passage to Chicago.

Only Bridget and her youngest brother Ed ever came to the US.

Bridget and Hugh Kennedy moved to Long Island, New York about 1934 to be near their three sons who had all moved there. They remained there until Hugh’s death in 1938. Bridget married Hugh Kennedy in 1892.

Hugh Kennedy was born on April 1, 1869 and emigrated to the U.S. from Tipperary, Ireland, in 1884. He was the youngest of 22 children! Hugh died in 1938.

Bridget and Hugh had 6 children:
o Dennis, was born on July 5, 1893
o Mary, born Jan 1, 1895
o Sarah, born November 27, 1898
o John A., born Oct, 1, 1901 (1903?)
o Celia (given name Bridget), born about 1906 (1905?)
o Hugh F., born about 1909

Bridget Mackey's parents: John Mackey and Sarah Murphy.

John Mackey's parents: Michael Mackey and Margaret Hickey.

Sarah Murphy's parents: Margaret Ledin - do not have a first name for Sarah's father.

Molly, No Molly, there are the following from 1874, Anne, Bridget, Margaret, Ellen, 1876, Bridget 1877, Honoria, Margaret - perhaps Molly is Margaret?

The above Parish is in the Poor Law Union of Kilmallock.
PLU's became the Civil Registration District, so when you look up names on www.labsfamilysearch.org you will be looking for those surnames born after 1864 in Kilmallock.

There are 266 records for the surname Leddin, you can also use this search internationally, and sometimes there are census records from the USA and passenger records.
there are 357 records for MacKey and 3700+ for Murphy.

www.familysearch.org

EG: Margaret Leddin born May 12, 1850 christened 8 Feb, 1841
I think they have those two the wrong way around usually a christenin comes after a birth. Her parents were Michael Leddin and Mary Morrisey and she died in 1925 in the USA.

There are other records for Limerick

Hi My great-grandfather was Patrick Mackey b 1862 in Castleconnell, Limerick who I believe is Bridget's elder brother as parents also John Mackey & Sarah Murphy. I had not known their parents names so, thank you for this information. Patrick emigrated to Sydney, Australia in 1881 and married Maria Flynn in 1885. Patrick died in 1944. Patrick & Maria had 9 children, one of whom (Charles b1892 d1948) was my grandfather.

Thank you so much for contacting me.

I knew Bridget came from a large family but I only knew Molly's name. I never would have thought of having any kind of relative in Australia.

I am putting together a family tree (Celusak Family Tree) and I think I'm over 3000 people now.

If you know anything more about the family, please let me know.

Thanks so much for what you already told me.

By the way, would you by any chance have any old family photos you would like to share?

I have only one of Bridget I got from a relative in Oregon.
