Surnames: Rogers, Rodgers, Brunson
Would like to correspond with anyone having knowledge of the Rogers/Rodgers families of Calhoun County as well as Marion and Sumter Counties, SC. The family patriarch Shadrach Rogers and Hopey his wife moved one part of their family to Covington Co, MS in the early 1800's. Another branch of this family moved to East Feliciana Parish, LA in the early 1810's.

Mr gr gr grandfather, Joseph Nathan Rodgers born SC, married Elizabeth Newton in 1834 in Sumter Co., Al. Came to Jasper Co., Texas ca 1854, on to Houston Co. by 1860. Elizabeth Newton died before 1868 and Joseph N. Rodgers then married Elizabeth Smith. I don't know much more about Joseph Nathan Rodgers. I do know that he died in Crockett, Houston Co., Texas in 1883.

Becky:

Hi! Do you know anything of the Shadrach Rogers who was living next door to Joseph Nathan Rogers in Sumter Co., AL in 1840? I believe they owned land together, as their names appear on deeds of one another. I believe they may be brothers!

I know very little about my Shadrach, other than he came from SC (so did your Joseph), lived next to Joseph on 1840 Sumter Co., AL census, then was in Tattnall Co., GA in 1850. I think he died around 1855, when his wife (Cynthia/Synthalia) and son (Joseph) sell his land and move to Sumter Co., SC.

Do you know anything more about your Joseph than you did when you first posted this message? I would love to hear from you!!

I have done a bit of research on this Joseph and Shadrach and do strongely believe they are brothers.

Thanks for the info on the Rodgers family.

My Rogers/Rodgers connection is via another family. There were two Shadrach Rogers/Rodgers living in close proximity during the late 1700's.

Shadrack who married Celia stayed in SC. Our line move to MS.

Thanks

Thanks, Wm.Brown for your reply. Have you seen the book on Shadrach Rogers and wife Hopey? Is this your line? South Carolina is so difficult to research and of course, the records for those early dates are fewer. Mary

I am a descendent of Joseph Nathan Rodgers from second wife Elizabeth Smith. I am interested in the book on Shadrach and Hopey Rodgers. Where might I find a copy? I believe Joseph and Shadrach were brothers. Would welcome any information you might have on Rodgers/Rogers family.
