I am a decendent of a James Crooks born in 1774. I am not sure where he was born but my records show him in Kentuckey. I was told that he was born in 1774 in New Jersey one of 3 boys, Charles, William and James. His father came from Scotland and his name was James Crooks and his father was named James.
I have read about Ramsay Crooks in a book called "A Fist In The Wilderness", and it tells about his travels. Does any of this sound familiar?

To Dorothy:

I too, am a descendent of William Crooks, but I do
not know if it is the same one. According to my
unreliable information, he had a daughter Nancy
who married Joseph Ingels. They lived in Philadelphia
after they were married and then moved to Meigs
County in Ohio. Does any of this sound familiar?

I have a William Crooks, born abt 1801,who had a daughter, born in Meigs county Ohio in 1847. Is this the same Nancy Crooks that you have. According to a relative, she moved to California after she married and was a deaconess in the Nazarene Church. She was killed in a streetcar accident. I do not have any information on her husband. Do you have any more information on William Crooks?
Thank you for your time,
Chris Crooks

Dear Chris:

I think the Nancy you mentioned is not the same
one as my ancestor. My Nancy Crooks married Joseph
Ingels and moved from Ohio to Indiana to Iowa.
However, I think that they are related because
the one you mention was in Meigs county at the
same time time Joseph Ingels was there. Census
data shows Meigs and Crooks families living
in close proximity.

My information is that Joseph Ingels and Nancy Crooks
were married in Baltimore. They must have
moved to Meigs county shortly after their
marriage. WE think that Nancy, who married Joseph
Ingles, was born about 1790. I think my Nancy had
a brother William. I think her father was named
William. So, your Nancy could have been a daugter
of William Jr. However, that is just speculation.

Glad to hear from you.
