Ronald: My recently published book "Knox-Martin-Whitlock Families" contains the same information you have down to Nelson Whitlock. My book traces the line from John including several generations of many of his descendants. I do not have John Whitlock's parents. I am interested to learn your source for his wife's name as Rose.

My father (listed as Garnet Hayward)started on this search back in 1990 and from what I can find of his papers since he passed away May 6,1997,he only spent 2 years on this until he got too ill to continue. His information comes by way of Whitlock Genealogical Research, the contact I have is:
Peter M. Whitlock, Mrs.L.N. Yehia
3804 Kilarney St. Also: Coquitlam,B.C.Canada
Port Coquitlam,B.C. Telephone; 604-937-3757
Canada, V3B 3G6
Roughly, our family was one of the Loyalists that came up from the American colonies following the American Revolution. They arrived in New Brunswick about 1783 and stayed in the Penniac area until quite recently. The family was from Connecticut and they have been able to trace it back to the early 1600's but have still not been able to make the connection back to
England. We know the Virginia Whitlocks came from Wokingham in Berkshire and were connected With the family of the Cromwellian Parliamentarian and Diarist,Bulstrode Whitelocke(1605-1675).Whether the Connecticut families are connected to the same family has not yet been determined.(taken from a letter dated Oct 6,1990).If I can be of any further help don't hesitate to send me an e-mail

Ronald: Yes, I believe the Connecticut Whitlocks were loyalists. My line went to Castleton, Vermont for several generations and then to Vinton, Iowa where my husband was born in 1924.

Peter Whitlock is an excellent source for further research. His Whitlock 09 file follows my Whitlock line.

You did not say, but it must have been from Peter Whitlock that you obtained the name of John's wife as Rose. This has not yet been proved, as I understand it.

I hope you can help me....

I saw a few of the messages you had posted and seems like you have alot of information on the Whitlock's. I am trying to find my husbands mother, Carolyn Jean Cooper born 12/24/45. I have not had very much luck but I do know that her mother's name was Annie Mae Whitlock. The birth certificate that I have for Carolyn says that Annie was 23 yr old when Carolyn was born. So I would assume that she would have been born in or around 1922. I do know that she was born in Anniston, AL. Any info that you might have sure would be appreciated!!

Thank you and God Bless!

Jeanne Strong,
Per the Peter Whitlock document, it shows Sarah Hirsch (died 1661) as wife of John Whitlock. Understand there was a Rose Whitlock who married Abraham Parker in 1644, Middlesex County, MA. Could have been a sister or cousin.

My line follows down from John (David's brother) whoh married Sarah Sherwood, Thomas, Joseph, Thaddeus, Aaron, Thaddeus, Artemis, through three generations of James, myself,to our grandson William, born August 1999.

Trying to find a Whitlock/Dalzeill connection. A Scottish clan, I understand a Whitlock can wear the tarten of that clan. Researching in Scotland, so far, no luck. Any help?

Edward: Thank you for your response. Which Peter Whitlock document shows Sarah Hirsch as John's wife? Is it from the Whitlock Newsletter? I have subscribed for years but missed any such reference. My book "Knox - Martin - Whitlock Families follows your line down to Joseph, Thomas' son, but only contains Joseph's wife, Mary Jarvis.

I do not have any information on a Dalzeill
except an entry in the 1987 Genealogical Research Directory that lists several persons searching the name Dalziel. If you would like me to send their names and addresses as of 1987, send me a request by my E-mail address.

Ronald, I am part of the John Whitlock, son of John Whitlock, branch. The only information I have for the first John, d. 1659, is from Peter Whitlock. He lists Sarah Hirsch as a spouse, d. 1661. After than, my information is good. Am very interested in your research regarding that generation. Also, do you think that was the first in this country? Am also trying to connect Whitlock with Dalzeil, a small Scottish clan. Understand from several books that a Whitlock can wear the tartan of the Dalzeil clan and can't find the connection. Any knowledge?

Jeanne, Sorry I don't see your E-Mail address. Peter Whitlock's 09 document is Whitlock's of Conn. I can E-mail it to you if you give me your address. Information also came from book, "History of Croton Falls" which details the Whitlocks that settled Whitlockville, NY and had a prominent business, Whitlock Brothers Hardware Store. That part of NY is now under the water of a New York City water supply, but the store building is still on the Main Street.
