10/6/01 - SINCLAIRVILLE , NY - SINCLAIRVILLE — Marion W. Edson, 97, of Lutheran Social Services, formerly of Sinclairville, died Saturday (Oct. 6, 2001) in the facility. She was born Sept. 12, 1904, in Avon, N.Y., the daughter of Allen D. and Mable L. Landon Wilbur. A Chautauqua County resident most of her life, she was a graduate of Avon High School and a 1927 graduate of Buffalo State Teacher College. She was employed as a school teacher in Sinclairville and Bemus Point schools from 1927 to 1932. Along with her husband, she operated the family dairy farm. She was a member of the Sinclairville Garden Club, the Sinclairville Grange 401, the Sinclairville Senior Citizens, and attended Park United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, especially her flowers, and baking. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters: Thelma Smith of Charlotte Center and Cynthia Porter of Coupeville, Wash.; six grandchildren: and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Everett J. Edson, whom she married Jan. 1, 1932, and who died July 5, 1979; a son, Grant W. Edson, who died July 31, 1983; a grandson, Gregory Edson, who died May 16, 1999; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Kenneth Wilbur, who died in 1983. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

My mother, Carol E. Chase remembers Marion W. Edson teaching at Sinclairville School where she attended and graduated from in 1938 which was the last graduating class from Sinclairville School because CVCS started in 1939 for students from Sinclairville.
